Description

Finding a good base layer can be difficult, as it needs to work equally well in the summer heat as it does in cold climates. Pearl Izumi's Transfer Base Layer does just that by making use of Pearl's P.R.O. Transfer fabric with Minerale.

The Transfer fabric features a porous yarn structure that gives it eight times the surface area of typical poly weaves, which facilitates the wicking and evaporation of moisture. Also, the Minerale treatment permanently added to the fabric utilizes natural volcanic minerals to boost evaporative cooling, provide anti-odor capabilities, and deliver UPF 30+ sun protection.

Pearl Izumi paid just as much attention to the fit of this base layer, seeing as the last thing anyone wants is a floppy, oversized undergarment. The shirt's close, anatomic fit not only lies nicely under a jersey, but enhances the wicking power through full contact with the skin. The arm and neck openings strike a perfect balance between being too roomy and too snug. The tail drops down a touch to facilitate tucking it into bib-less shorts.

The Pearl Izumi Transfer Short-Sleeve Base Layer is available in sizes Small through XX-Large and in the colors Black and White.

Change Is Not Always Good

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:True to size

The previous style Transfer base layer was great – perfect fit, nice feel, excellent performance, and looked good enough to wear on its own (for spin class, brick runs, etc.). This version looks and feels like cheap underwear. It's paper thin and more like mesh. The sleeves have supposedly been articulated, which was not necessary for short sleeves, making them look just plain weird. And the neck sits much lower than before, even though this is primarily intended as a cold-weather base. Can't comment on performance because it's going back before I wear it. Change may be good; but there's also merit in leaving well enough alone.
