Rain ain't no thang.

If you're looking for rain booties that are water-tight and durable, but that don’t require you to be an escape artist to slip in and out of them, then the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Barrier WxB Shoe Covers will be right up your alley. Whether you plan on doing a lot of rain riding or all-weather commuting, these shoe covers will have you covered.

The P.R.O. Barrier WxB Shoe Covers are designed to provide both wind and rain protection without suffocating your feet. You should be able to wear them most of your winter season. That is because they're fleece-lined and fully waterproof. The seams are taped to prevent leakage, while the fleece lining will keep your feet snug and warm. The opening at the back of the bootie has a two stage hook and loop closure that ensures a sleek aero profile and makes them easy to get on and off as well.

What do you dread when you purchase a new pair of shoe covers? Wearing through the foot bed, of course. Once you do that, then you reduce much of the effectiveness of the waterproof upper. To ensure that the bottom of these booties has the longevity to match the uppers, Pearl Izumi makes them out of a stretchy Kevlar knit that's pliant enough to allow easy entry, but is tough enough to resist tearing if you inevitably walk around in your cycling shoes.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Barrier WxB Shoe Covers have reflective elements to keep you visible during dark, rainy days. The shoe covers are available in Black and come in five sizes from Small through X-Large.

  • P.R.O. Barrier WxB fabric repels wind and water while letting perspiration escape
  • Fleece lining adds warmth
  • Fully taped seams prevent water from sneaking through the stitching
  • Hook-and-loop closure eases ons and offs
  • KEVLAR® road bottom spreads open for external cleat compatibility
  • Reflective details make you easier to see in low-light conditions

Something special

Pearl Izumi USA is based near Boulder CO and designs great cold-weather gear (arm warmers, gloves, caps, and cycling jackets). But even in the huge Pearl Izumi gear lineup, these P.R.O. Barrier WxB shoe covers are special.

Application: For keeping your feet warm while riding in 40-70* weather -even with rain!

PROS: (1) Everyone's winter booties insulate from the cold, but these P.R.O. shoe covers also repel water while riding through the rain, wet roads, and puddles -while remaining breathable! This is hard to pull off. Very few shoe covers made by anyone else can do this effectively (admittedly Gore covers do also). (2) These covers have no zippers (thus will not pinch your ankles). (3) The velcro closure accommodates a full range of ankles sizes. (4) Pearl Izumi quality and QC is uniformly excellent. (5) Much better looking than Gore covers.

Comment: The material is thin and stretchy (aero). The material is very high quality and fleeced on the inside, but these shoe covers will -not- insulate below 40 degrees.

CONS: Take care with the Velcro closure when removing the covers. The material will rip if you are not careful.

FIT: Follow the size chart. I wear a 45 euro in Sidi and Shimano. The XL is the perfect size. Right in the middle.

"WxB" means... W = waterproof and B = breathable. Keep your feet warm & dry -- and ride in comfort!

Easy Peezy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

They go on really easily, are warm and block out pretty much everything.

Good, not great

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been using these overshoes nearly daily in the fall/winter/spring for over a year now. The positives, they are easy to get on and off, the velcro holds well and provides a lot of adaptability for leg size. They are very good at shedding the stuff that falls from the sky.

In all fairness I need to preface the next comment with I don't know if this is a factor of wear, or I just didn't notice it before. Recently they have been getting waterlogged. After about an hour or so on wet roads, I'll come back and take them off and they will be soggy.

The toes and strap across the bottom have held up pretty well, however they are also starting to wear a bit as well. Depending on how much you use them, they are definitely good for a couple of seasons. Overall a very good product

Easiest to get on shoe cover!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These shoe covers are by far the easiest to get on because the whole back comes undone unlike other shoe covers where the zipper only comes down part of the way. Also the toe has reinforced material which seems to be holding up nicely so far.
