Be cool.

Pearl Izumi's P.R.O. In-R-Cool Women's Shorts make warm weather riding more enjoyable by reflecting heat. To do this, they use Pearl's P.R.O. Transfer In-R-Cool fabric.

P.R.O. Transfer fabric reflects heat, transfers moisture away from your body, and is exceptionally breathable. To beat the heat, Pearl treated the bulk of the fabric with an application called Coldblack. Essentially, Coldblack allows black fabrics to reflect the sun's radiant energy as if it were a light colored fabric. In layman's terms, this means that your skin stays cooler.  In order to keep you dry, and to control odor, Izumi's P.R.O. Transfer Dry is constructed from Minerale yarn, which is derived from naturally occurring minerals. The combination of the minerals in this yarn trap odors in microscopic pores and releases them after a simple wash and dry. Finally, the material dries very quickly, aiding in its breathability on hot days. It pulls moisture away from your skin to the surface of the shorts where it is quickly evaporated.

The shorts feature a form fit. The anatomic cut and wide elastic leg bands with silicone grippers, hold the shorts in place firmly, yet comfortably. The construction then uses Pearl Izumi's best chamois — the Women's P.R.O. Seamless 3D Chamois.

Pearl Izumi used digital pressure map modeling in order to dial in the perfect amount of density and tapering for the three types of foam used in the construction. As a result, it provides enhanced blood-flow, vibration dampening, and comfort. The chamois itself, also has integrated carbon yarns in order to control odor and to provide increased heat regulation.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. In-R-Cool Women's Shorts are available in sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the color Black.

Best shorts for distance w/climbs

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:Runs small

Thanks to other reviews, I ordered Small (vs typical XS). Best shorts for my size/build for distance/climbs. I find that the chamois in XS shorts are fine for shorter rides, but too large/bulky for distance/climbs. Not the case with the PRO shorts. I have two pairs so far and currently my fave over Gore Oxygen, Shebeest S Pro.

Very tight

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs small

I normally wear a size medium in cycling shorts (and a 4 or 6 in jeans or pants). After reading the reviews and talking to the sales associate at Backcountry, I decided to order both the medium and large. The medium was so tight, I could not get them up past my knees. After struggling, I got the large on, but if I needed to take them off and put them back on (as in using the restroom) on a humid day, I don't think I could get them back up. Also, the leg grippers on both the medium and large was too big. So needless to say, I returned both pair.

Runs small!

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I'm a pretty easy medium/8 and can squeeze into these, but rather than chance a seam or two splitting on a ride, I'm up-sizing to large.

Absolutely beautiful shorts, though

Really really too small

Normally, my pant size is 6 or 8 petite in dress pants. I do have hips though and even the LARGE women's P.R.O. shorts are just barely big enough. Like the other reviewer, I have used Pearl Izumi pro line shorts for a decade in MEDIUM and I have always been comfortable and satisfied. This new "Euro cut" sizing is really annoying and a poor choice on Pearl Izumi's part. Most women are mortified when they need a larger size and so psychologically, this is not a way to please the customer! So, anyone else reading this review, the size is indeed off by at least 1 size. I am optimistic they will ride well!

    Too Small

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

My girlfriend and I have both used these shorts for years. On reason that you buy the same product from an on-line vendor is that you know the product and that it fits. This year Pearl decided to change the size of this model of shorts, not the others. Obviously this was a bone-headed move. All of your clothes should use the same sizing chart and those who re-order the same product on-line will have to send them back for a bigger size. STUPID.
