Ultra-precise.

Weighing a paltry 245 grams each with a seamless upper that's only 0.9-millimeters thick, the Pearl Izumi Men's P.R.O. Leader II Shoes are some of the lightest, thinnest cycling shoes on the market. Pearl achieved this ultra-light, incredibly thin design by leveraging its Seamless 0.9-millimeter Second Skin Upper. This upper is completely seam-free, thanks to its revolutionary design that's the result of welding a non-stretch synthetic leather to highly breathable mesh. Known by Pearl as their Power Web, this upper precisely conforms to your foot, while eliminating pressure points and hot spots. And since it's made of a synthetic material, it won't stretch or deform over time, further reinforcing the shoe's high levels of power transfer.

Securing the shoe with an ultra-precise fit, Pearl placed a micro-adjustable Boa reel within the center of the shoe's tongue, with wide anchor points to evenly distribute lacing pressure and eliminate bunching along the upper. This bi-directional Boa closure pulls an equal amount of wire from each side of the shoe, uniformly tightening its cable instead of pulling excessively to either side. Plus, this centrally placed Boa reel eliminates the chance of damaging it, should you take a spill on the road. Further adding to the shoe's precise fit, you'll find a hook-and-loop strap placed along the forefoot to tighten or relieve metatarsal pressure as needed.

As satisfied with Pearl's Second Skin Upper and centrally-located, micro-adjustable Boa closure, the upper's job is to glue your foot to the sole, which is one of the central tenants of any cycling shoe. The P.R.O. Leader II doesn't spare any expenses at transferring power to the pedal. Where the closure system benefits from being bi-directional, Pearl's Octane 1:1 Power Plate is constructed from unidirectional carbon instead of a carbon weave. Unidirectional carbon allows Pearl's engineers to strategically arrange its fibers so that they're load bearing along their axes, increasing strength and reducing the amount of material used. This level of precision can't be achieved with a carbon weave, which is used in more general applications but falls short of unidirectional carbon when used in targeted applications. Plus, it allows for an absurdly low stack height of just 6.5-millimeters. A lower stack height means more power is transferred from your foot to the pedal without being absorbed by the flex in a bulky sole. Furthermore, the soles also feature Direct-Vent technology, which, as you would expect, ventilates and drains the shoes.
