Description

The P.R.O. Leader Bib Shorts are built with Pearl Izumi's advanced materials, construction methods, and aerodynamic fit to provide the highest standard in cycling apparel design and craftsmanship. For materials, these race-proven bibs use a combination of two distinct technical fabrics.

The first is P.R.O. Transfer In-R-Cool, which is a lightweight and super elastic material incorporating Coldblack technology. This is a finishing treatment that reduces absorption of heat rays in darker fabrics, resulting in protection from the sun and improved heat management. The second fabric is Pearl Izumi's Transfer Dry fabric, which complements the In-R-Cool material with its ability to pull moisture from the skin, accelerate dry time, and combat odor.

Pearl Izumi accomplishes this by treating Transfer Dry with Minerale, essentially a porous, highly absorbent yarn that's been infused with crushed volcanic rock. Blending these two fabrics for the bulk of the shorts' paneling means you stay supported, dry, and comfortable throughout the longest rides. The multi-panel design of the bib shorts gives you an anatomic fit, with structured leg openings that wrap and support your muscle groups.

The inseam measures 10 inches (Medium), and the hems have been treated with silicone to keep them in place and to provide extra grip for warmers. Wide bib straps flow up from the top panels, smoothly tapering at the shoulders. On the other end, Pearl's seamless 4D Chamois incorporates variable-density padding throughout its three-layer construction.

The foam's 35% lighter and thinner than previous generations, while still maintaining its pre-shaped, four-way stretch anatomic shape. The chamois also incorporates the company's Pressure Relief Technology (PRT) and active carbon yarns to optimize riding comfort, blood flow, and thermo-regulation.

Pearl Izumi finishes its bib shorts with sublimated graphics, and reflective elements for heightened safety in low-light conditions. The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Leader Bib Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors White/stillwater, White/true red, Mykonos Blue/screaming yellow, and Black.

Great fit, quality product.

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I scored these at a major discount. They are much nicer than the entry level PI bib. Fantastic fit and really snug / comfortable materials. Plenty of panels.

No complaints: fit, quality, comfort all good.

Unanswered Question

I like the "Anatomic PRO Seamless 1:1" chamois that the P.R.O. In-R-Cool Bib Shorts have. The chamois in these PRO Leader bibs is called PRO Seamless 4D. Is it a different chamois?

Nice bibs

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

The Mykonos Blue bibs are sharp, fit well and are comfortable. Reserving the fifth star for longevity. I've worn them 9-10 times with no obvious wear. I'm 5'9 weigh 150 the M fit perfectly. Definitely recommend to buy.

My favourite bibs

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I've tried many pairs of knicks, usually the top end stuff, and these are consistently my fav. I'm 183 cm (6 ft), 75 kg with a lean 'cyclist' build, and I find the Medium fits nice and snug. I have problems with leg grippers riding up from some brands, but never these, the nice wide grippers stay firmly in place on my legs (so I'm very surprised to hear of Jon's troubles). The fabric is good quality thick lycra, the pad is super comfy, and I find they last about 2 yrs doing 3-5 rides/week, interchanging with a couple of other pairs. Been used on all types of rides, up to 200 km (125 miles) +. This latest iteration of the PRO Leader is my favourite yet.

great bib

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

These are definitely my go to for long rides. Good compression, without feeling overly tight.

I know Im an odd duck for some things... but, I hate the grippers on the legs. But, that isnt limited to these. I hate them all. Its an easy fix... roll the legs up once, so they grippers are facing out.

The chamois is also very nice. Its not too thin, not too thick and really holds up well on long rides. (Your nether regions wont die on century rides!)

My go to shorts

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

The grippers work well, I actually prefer them over a thick band of silicon. I also have no issues with the pad moving around or causing issues. I have many other short brands and this pad does well against the rest. 31" waist, Medium. I could have probably done a small also.

One minor issue

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

The grippers are integrated into the material of the slightly tighter short cuffs, and don't have any actual silicone. The fit and compression were great, but the seams along the pad felt thick and tended to ride up along the sides regardless of the grippers. The pad was thin yet still comfortable for decently long rides, but the bib material around the groin (around the pad) was uncomfortably thick, and so the bib moved stiffly through this area. It led to noticeable rubbing along the groin. The medium size was fine, I'm 5'8 and 165 lbs. I am in the process of returning it as I am overly particular about these minor things. Other than this very nit-picky issue, it's otherwise an excellent bib.

Hey Jon, what bibs ended up working for you? I too, am super picky and can't stand when shorts ride up due to non existent grippers.

Castelli enduro x2 with the progetto x2 chamois,...moves well, breaths well, good compression, nice grippers, and the chamois is great for hours on the saddle. Furthermore, it didn't break the bank when you compare it to bibs hitting the $200 range and up.

What size did you go with? I am 5'8" and 165 - gone with castelli med size shorts previously but wondering large would be worth trying?

I'm exactly the same height and weight, medium is perfect, nice compression.
