Cool shorts for hot days.

Pearl Izumi’s P.R.O. In-R-Cool Shorts are designed for the hottest of summer days. Despite their black color, they actually feature a technology called coldblack, which reflects the sun’s rays away from the fabric, which keeps the fabric (and therefore your skin) significantly cooler than it would be otherwise.

At the core of the shorts is Pearl Izumi’s P.R.O. Seamless 1:1 chamois, which is significantly thinner and lighter than previous Pearl chamoises, but gives up none of the comfort provided by those versions. Its three-layer construction and intelligent shape offers support, moisture wicking, and comfort in spades.

  • Coldblack fabric treatment
  • Silicone grippers
  • Anatomic P.R.O. Seamless 1:1 chamois
  • Moisture wicking In-R-Cool with Minerale fabric

pro shorts make no doubt

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Super high quality pearl izumi shorts are some of the best shorts I have ever used over my 30 plus years of riding and as far as I can tell these shorts are the best ever. These are my go to shorts for 200k rides and I have done several this season. On one weekend, where I was riding back to back 200k's the first day I rode with these pro shorts and it was just comfortable the entire 10 hour day. The next day I used a lessor short that I also considered one of my better ones for long rides and I could really feel the saddle much more. So the highly compact padding in these shorts works. I am 6'5" tall and purchased a size large. I have always purchased a size large when I get pearl izumi shorts. These are bit slimmer, but hey they are pro shorts....get a pair....superb quality. I just wish they were not so expensive.

very nice shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

I used these for the first time on RAGBRAI - fit very tight at first, runs small like the other reviewers say, but after a few wearings and washings they fit great. No problems at all. I like the chamois and the color on the legs. I will buy more in other colors. About a 34 " waist and the medium size fit fine after two weeks.

New style is horrible!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I'm not sure when they changed the style but the ones prior to 2015 were great. The padding is thinner and the fit is way tighter. They radically changed them and now they just plain suck! I wore a medium before and now even the large are too small. They are also very slippery when wet and will catch you off-guard when moving around in the saddle. This is the last Pearl Izumi I'll ever buy!

PI shorts at the top

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wear many of the PI products. The quality of the materials is at the top of the spectrum while the prices are usually modest. I normally wear bib shorts, but could not pass up a great sale on the PI Pro shorts. I actually find that after three washings, the chamois is more comfortable. The compression of the pro shorts and bibs is perfect for my body. I stand 5'9" and weigh 144lbs. I buy medium in the PI shorts and bibs. I could go SM but it is way too tight up front, if you catch my drift.

Next Size Up!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I see a lot of bad reviews on the size/fit on these shorts (both in men's and in women's). I usually wear a medium PI Attack or Elite short (183 lb. 5'11"). So I decided to upgrade to the PRO line for once! Way to constricting! I had to return them and get the next size up (large). Now all is happy in nether-land! The only fault is the sizing of these shorts and having to do the return-a-go-go.

A terrible product update

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I own a few pairs of last years model here and dreaded to see that they were modified. Sure, you can read the reviews and pretend you don't believe the bad stuff, but believe it here. So I took the plunge and was prepared to be delighted, but was not. I ride 100 - 150 miles a week and am of moderate build and size(5'10", 170#). I bought the "Large" as that is the size I have from last year. The fit in the leg is way too tight up high, so much so that it makes it more difficult to peddle! Even after multiple washes, these bad boys are not loosening up. Way too constraining. I can't believe I'm saying this but I am going to have to find another brand. Farewell Pearl Izumi. You shouldn't have messed up a perfect product.

I am also a long time Pearl loyalist, with similar concerns about the new version of these shorts. I have a 32-33" waist, so I'm right in the range for a Medium, which is what I've had for the last several years. I expect shorts like these to be tight, but these are significantly tighter than previous years' models. They felt quite restrictive after a long, hot ride. Will have to see if they stretch a bit, or try a Large next time.

I feel you "nailed it" in your review Mr. C. I've been a PI customer for a few years but this radical change has me shopping elsewhere.
