Description

Once summer's warm breeze turns unbearably hot, Pearl Izumi's P.R.O. In-R-Cool Bib Shorts' heat-reflective technologies step in to help cool things down. When the mercury continues to climb, the Coldblack that's found in Pearl's lightweight and highly-elastic Transfer In-R-Cool fabric reduces absorption of sun rays.

This means not only excellent UFP ratings, but improved heat management too. Additionally, these bib shorts use Pearl Izumi's Transfer Dry fabric, which complements In-R-Cool with Minerale. This is a porous, highly-absorbent yarn infused with crushed volcanic rock to pull moisture away from the skin, accelerate dry time, and combat odor.

Moving on, the multi-panel design that Pearl's summer bib provides uses an anatomic fit, with structured leg openings that wrap and support your muscles. The inseam measures 9 inches (size Medium) with silicone hems to grip warmers and keep panels securely in place. Up top, wide Direct-Vent mesh bib straps seamlessly transition from the shorts and smoothly taper at the shoulders.

Finally, no bib shorts are complete without a quality chamois, which is something Pearl Izumi's well versed in. On these shorts, the Anatomic P.R.O. Seamless 1:1 insert incorporates variable density padding throughout its three-layer construction. The foam technology means that it's lighter and substantially thinner than previous generations. It maintains a pre-shaped, four-way stretch anatomic shape, and the chamois also incorporates Izumi's Pressure Relief Technology (PRT) and active carbon yarns in order to optimize riding comfort, blood flow, and thermo-regulation.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. In-R-Cool Bib Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in four colors: Black, Black/mykonos blue, Black/true red, and Black/stillwater.

Do these bibs run small compared to the 2013 and 2012 versions?

I have noticed comments on other sites that this years 2014 Pro In R Cool bibs run small and if I used a medium previously I need a large now.

Please assist.

These bibs run true to the sizes shown on the fit chart. They are a compression fit and the correct sizing will yield a tight short. Over previous years the only changes are a slightly lower front that will make it easier on you when nature calls and a thin panel in the back that will improve ventilation properties.

Excellent Bib for the Money!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

These are a top notch bib for their price. The materials are very comfortable, size is very true to chart and larger than typical Euro fittings. The chamois is comfortable for longer rides and the leg hems simply disappear while riding. There are lighter weight bibs, but I think that the PI Pro In-R-Cool has hit the mark for excellent fit, great material quality, very good chamois, very good looks all at a perfect price point, not to mention typical Pearl Izumi quality for durability.

Solid bib but on the short side

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Solid bib in my opinion. No doubt that the chamois is placed slightly further forward than most but overall did not bother me. The chamois is very comfortable, especially on the long rides. The chamois pad is also smooth, no "anatomical" bumps, raised pads, etc which I really liked. The only complaint is that the inseam is on the short side. I'm 6' 2'', with a 32 waist, and a close to 36" inseam, and the Medium shorts tend to ride up a bit, almost to mid-thigh despite the shorts having some great leg grippers.

Not great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I tried a pair of these but they didn't work because the pad was sewn to far forward. This resulted in my sit bones sitting on the chamois stitching, which resulted in chaffing and an padded (uncomfortable feel). I wish manufactures would use a bigger pad in the bigger size shorts. I used a size XL. The rest of the shorts felt good though, although they are little too long for my liking. I prefer my short to not touch my knee caps.
