Once summer's warm breeze turns unbearably hot, Pearl Izumi's P.R.O. In-R-Cool Bib Shorts' heat-reflective technologies step in to help cool things down. When the mercury continues to climb, the Coldblack that's found in Pearl's lightweight and highly-elastic Transfer In-R-Cool fabric reduces absorption of sun rays.

This means not only excellent UFP ratings, but improved heat management too. Additionally, these bib shorts use Pearl Izumi's Transfer Dry fabric, which complements In-R-Cool with Minerale. This is a porous, highly-absorbent yarn infused with crushed volcanic rock to pull moisture away from the skin, accelerate dry time, and combat odor.

Moving on, the multi-panel design that Pearl's summer bib provides uses an anatomic fit, with structured leg openings that wrap and support your muscles. The inseam measures 9 inches (size Medium) with silicone hems to grip warmers and keep panels securely in place. Up top, wide Direct-Vent mesh bib straps seamlessly transition from the shorts and smoothly taper at the shoulders.

Finally, no bib shorts are complete without a quality chamois, which is something Pearl Izumi's well versed in. On these shorts, the Anatomic P.R.O. Seamless 1:1 insert incorporates variable density padding throughout its three-layer construction. The foam technology means that it's lighter and substantially thinner than previous generations. It maintains a pre-shaped, four-way stretch anatomic shape, and the chamois also incorporates Izumi's Pressure Relief Technology (PRT) and active carbon yarns in order to optimize riding comfort, blood flow, and thermo-regulation.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. In-R-Cool Bib Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in four colors: Black, Black/mykonos blue, Black/true red, and Black/stillwater.

Not great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I tried a pair of these but they didn't work because the pad was sewn to far forward. This resulted in my sit bones sitting on the chamois stitching, which resulted in chaffing and an padded (uncomfortable feel). I wish manufactures would use a bigger pad in the bigger size shorts. I used a size XL. The rest of the shorts felt good though, although they are little too long for my liking. I prefer my short to not touch my knee caps.
