Cool your jets.

With a variety of materials and technology designed to calm boiling mercury, Pearl Izumi's Elite In-R-Cool Shorts help to keep your engine cool during those hot summer hammer-fests. The shorts are so cool, in every sense of the word, that Pearl has re-released them for the new model year with only one change: the panels have been re-cut for a more ergonomic fit.

The main body fabric is still Elite Transfer In-R-Cool with Coldblack technology, which acts light a light-colored fabric. Instead of absorbing it as heat, it actually reflects up to 80% of the sun's energy, lowering your body temperature. It also actively pulls moisture from your skin and pushes it to the material's surface.

While they retain the previous model's silicone grip, the folded leg bands are one of the changes made to the shorts' construction. They're compressive without pinching, so they don't cut into your legs or feel restrictive. Unlike the leg bands, Pearl Izumi's Elite 3D Chamois returns unchanged. It's a breathable, four-way stretch insert built with Pressure Relief Technology, which takes pressure off of sensitive nerves and blood vessels while damping vibrations. It also incorporates carbon yarns in order to control odor and to provide increased heat regulation.

  • ColdBlack treatment
  • Elite Transfer In-R-Cool main body fabric
  • 9-inch inseam
  • Elite 3D seamless insert

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

These shorts are very comfortable, and very cool. I have worn these shorts on indoor bike, as well as my road bike. This is my first pair of PI Elite shorts, but I will definitely be buying a few more pairs. These are a bargain at the sale price.

Excellent shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I use the pro bibs for distance riding, but I love these for my daily commute to and from work. The chamois is comfy and they don't ride up. If you can get them on sale, it's a no-brainer.

33" waist.

Very nice shorts at $50

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

5'-9 190 LBs. 34" waist, Mediums TOO TIGHT. They run small. Order one size up from older PI shorts. Returned and ordered Larges.

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Others have mentioned they run small. I thought so too when I first put them on but after a couple of rides they feel perfect just like my attack shorts. These shorts are far superior to the attack shorts I have worn for years. Of course they retail for a lot more money. Great price here. 35in. waist.

Way small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

Nice shorts but get a size bigger or you'll be sending them back. I haven't gotten any bigger but pearl Izumi just seems to be getting smaller.

Sizing runs small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I have owned 3 or more Pearl bike shorts, all size large and they fit great. These run a full size small, so now i fit an XL. The large size I bought are tiny and measure 2 inches smaller in the waist from my existing 2 pairs of PI shorts. I still measure 35 1/2 to 36 waist, so???

The exact same thing happened to me. The size is way off. You should order at least one size up.

This is exactly my experience as well, I thought it was just me!

Good value in shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

Sizing is spot-on, panels have good compression without pinching, and the chamois is comfortably solid.

High Quality

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Excellent quality cycling shorts, as can be expected from Pearl Izumi. Great for long rides. Perfect fit.

Great for long rides

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I hoped I'd be getting superior comfort for the price I paid ... and I did! Everyone's anatomy is different and this one may not work for you but it is probably the most comfortable pair of cycling shorts I own.

My first ride in these was around 55 miles and I didn't feel any sore/hot spots or chafing. That - to me - is the true test. I'm doing a century next weekend and these will be my go-to shorts.

I have a few other pairs (not Elite In-R-Cool) that are getting worn out and aren't as comfortable as they once were (and, in fact, were never as comfortable as these to begin with). I'll be replacing those with more of these!

little pain with these

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I just got into biking and was worried about being sore. These shorts were recommended and so far they have been great. It usually takes about an hour of riding before I feel any soreness. I have ridden in both hot and cooler temps and they have worked great. I have nothing to compare them against but I would recommend them to bikers just starting out.
