Not Very Durable
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
After a fairly minor fall, the zipper for the right sleeve broke off and the material of the sleeve ripped some around the forearm. It still functions as a vest and the sleeves can work with a bit of adjustment, but I'm disappointed that it wasn't more durable. So be aware that the material isn't that strong.
Sizing was fine for the most part, but the sleeves were a bit too short for me (granted I have unusually long arms). It wasn't a big problem, but it made the gussets on the sleeves look odd because they weren't quite at my elbows.
Otherwise, it functioned fine. I used it for biking in cool temp (nothing less than 40 degrees F), and I even used it as a windbreaker for running in winter conditions a few times (about 30-35 degrees F). I had to take it off about 2 miles into the run because I got too overheated, but it still breathed reasonably well.
Love it Mostly
Lightweight, well built, classic Pearl quality, meets my needs... but what's with the gussets in the sleeves...? Cute but a little odd and they kinda flap in the wind when I'm riding. I'm almost self conscious of them and have tried to tuck them in more than once. Keeping it though, love it overall.
I ordered 3 jackets with the intention of keeping only 1. I really wanted a rain coat but this one looked very cool and had good reviews. Long story short, i did send it back, only because i really wanted a proper rain cycling jacket. I almost kept it for the super cool factor. The zip off sleeves and panel is awesome - it all comes away as 1 piece and was easy to get off, then back on again. Very soft jacket, and very nice looking. Basically a wind breaker though which was not what i needed.
This jacket is amazing.
Let me first just say this jacket is great. I don't usually write reviews but this one really deserves it. I was looking for a shell I could wear for rain and wind, but also wanted a convertible option for warmer days. This is all that. I got a small and the fit is great(I'm 5'7 and 120). There's enough room for a base and thin mid layer. The sleeves are longer which works really well. It also has Velcro wrist straps to pull the wrists tight. I've worn this in the rain and came back w dry underlayer. Mostly have worn in temps between 30-50 w just a baselayer or w a mi layer. But once I warm up I tend to pull the sleeves off. It's really warm!!! Wind blocking does it's job. I'll be wearing this straight through the northeast winters and be totally find, with just variations on base/mid layers. Very very happy. Also just looks really awesome on:)
Must have piece
I bought an earlier version of this jacket in 2007. It went with me on bike trips from Greece to Maine but finally gave out. I'm hard on zippers and just caught it on something and ripped it out. Ordered a new version right away. It arrived a couple of weeks ago and it is even better than the original. Fabric is softer and is more breathable. The yellow is truly screaming with lots of reflective bits. I love it. It looks great and the cut is perfect. Not too large and not so form fitting that I can't layer appropriately underneath. This really is a piece that anyone who rides in cooler to cold weather should not do without. Lots of pockets and love, love, love the zip off sleeves. I wear this when the temps are between 40-60. Good for drizzly conditions, too.
