With changing seasons comes a changing cycling wardrobe, and whether you're moving from summer gloves to fall gloves or winter gloves to spring gloves, chances are that the perennially popular Pearl Izumi Cyclone Gel Gloves are part of the process. With its combination of function, aesthetics, and economic pricing, few other gloves enjoy such singular devotion from their cycling partners.
The Cyclone Gel Gloves' active ingredient is PI Softshell technology, which insulates, blocks wind, and resists water so you can ride comfortably in all cold-weather conditions. They don't have as much insulation as the P.R.O. and Elite Softshell gloves, so they're more breathable and less bulky, striking an ideal balance between protection and dexterity. This accounts for them being Pearl's best-selling gloves, a title they're sure to retain with a few newly added features for 2014.
Pearl Izumi's new 1:1 design philosophy, when applied to the Cyclones, resulted in a re-orientation of the gel padding in the palm to remove stress on the Ulnar and Median nerves and eliminate restrictive feelings between the thumb and forefinger. This makes for longer ride comfort and easier shifting, braking, and opening candy bars. Other features are marking another return this year, including the touchscreen-friendly forefinger and thumb tips, the durable synthetic palm, and reflective highlights to help keep you visible in low-light conditions. There's also a felt wiping panel on the thumb — a pre-req for any serious cold-weather glove.
The Pearl Izumi Cyclone Gel Gloves are available in six sizes ranging from X-Small to XX-Large in the colors Black, Screaming Yellow, and White.
