Circle in comfort.

Pearl Izumi designed its new Canyon Shorts to combine day-long riding comfort and support with a style and fit that looks great on or off of the bike. They're built with the imperative characteristics that you demand while riding, without screaming to everyone that you're wearing chamois-clad bicycle shorts.

Pearl constructed the Canyon Shorts from its own Transfer Stretch fabric. This lightweight, breathable material provides exceptional moisture transfer and moves with you as you ride. Accordingly, this keeps you comfortable and dry throughout your longest trail riding sessions.

In terms of fit, the Canyon's 11-inch inseam (size Medium) is the shortest in this year's collection, yet it still provides you with ample upper leg coverage. It lends itself to the shorts' middle ground looseness, that's slightly more tapered than all-mountain baggies, but still provides ample leg openings to fit over bash guards. And to secure this fit, Pearl Izumi used its exterior waist adjustments, front snap closure, and zip-fly in order to hold the shorts firmly in place.

Pearl Izumi's Mountain Series 3D chamois is incorporated into the shorts' detachable liner. This four-way stretch insert is pre-shaped, and it blends two layers of variable density padding in order to provide you with maximum support. The chamois also incorporates Pearl Izumi's Pressure Relief Technology (PRT), which optimizes blood flow and increases overall riding comfort.

To store your keys, cash, or cards, the shorts also feature a single hidden-zipper side pocket.

The Pearl Izumi Canyon Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black and Shadow Grey/black.

below average quality for pearl izumi

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:True to size

pretty thin shorts and the liners are really cheaply made. The liners are too short and ride up your thigh; and the padding is very thin. Definitely a disappointment since pearl izumi usually makes quality stuff. Will be returning these and buying another pair from Zoic.

Great shorts, average liner

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

The shorts are fantastic. Light, quick-drying. The fit is true; I'm about a 30 waist but short in stature, and the the small fits great (and have a bit of leeway with the adjustable waistband - a big bonus on these shorts for sure). The chamois liner is just ok - chamois is comfortable, but as noted below the connection to the outer short is kind of funky. Also they are a little short for my tastes; I find them riding up a bit. All considered though, a really comfortable short overall. I bought two pair and think I will separate the inner/outer on one and report back on whether that was a good move for me (or not).

Great MTB shorts

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Very comfortable and soft. Strongly recommended if you are looking for a comfortable and sleek look while riding on the trail.

Super comfie. Hope they last long.

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

Larges fit pretty true to size. I wear 32/33 usually and these fit great. Length hits me middle of the knee.

Pros: Super comfie. The stretch material is great. The chamios is good for the price and fine for most rides.

Cons: They need another pocket. And the existing pocket has a very small zipper pull so it's really tough to open while riding. I didn't experience the bunching issue but can see how people might not like them attached like that. The material is really soft and comfortable but I worry they'll wear out quickly.

Do these come with the padded compression underwear?

Yes! There is a chamois included. It's pretty basic but hasn't been a problem for me. It's not removable so take that into consideration.

Good basic MTB short - 1 required mod

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

The number 1 thing you have to do when you get these shorts is cut apart the inner and outer shorts. There is NO REASON they should be connected the way they are. Cut the mesh connector then get rid of the extra material as close to the seem on both sides. No more bunching of extra fabric. Better fit from the floating outer short. And at the end a ride, pull off the liners and wear the shorts to the post-ride BBQ.

The Basics

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This short is perfect for someone just needing a baggy mountain bike or commuter short. The Pearl Izumi chamios is decent, but not their top of the line. I ditched the liner and just wear my bibs with this short on top. I also wear these shorts swimming and as a casual short. I have three pairs of these shorts.

Disappointed

  • Gender:Male

I am still considering returning these, as they have been a disappointment. The fit is funky because of the sewn-in liner (they get all bunchy in the small of my back) and the chamois is barely adequate. Not recommended.

I agree with you on this one and had to send mine back. Still searching for good shorts other than bibs for casual weekend rides. The search continues!

What is the sizing like? I usually wear a large in road bike shorts. Would a medium work here?

Late to the party. Just bought a pair of larges. I usually wear a 32/33 and they fit great. They have velcro tabs on the side for adjustment. The material has a nice stretch. I've worn them 3 times. Super comfie.
