Description

A base layer that is beyond basic

Base layers are essential to any cyclist's wardrobe. Regardless of if you're riding a blustery five miles to work, or conquering a KOM segment in the middle of winter, the Pearl Izumi Barrier Base Layer will keep the shivers at bay.

Made from Pearl's P.R.O. Barrier fabric, the front torso panel acts as a wind barrier under your jersey. This material placement prevents the wind from chilling your core. The remainder of the jersey is made from the quick-drying P.R.O. transfer fabric. Minerale has been woven into the fabric to assist in moving moisture away from your skin -- keeping you dry and at a consistent temperature. The Minerale 'additive' also acts as an odor absorbent that keeps you smelling fresh after hours of riding. Izumi cut the Barrier with a slim-fit and crew neck to prevent your jersey and baselayer from fighting for the same space. Instead, the two garments integrate seamlessly to minimize surface abrasion. The end result is a comfortable, dependable, and dry thermo-regulated core. And for added protection, a UPF 30 rating keeps harmful rays away from your skin when your jersey is unzipped.

The Pearl Izumi Barrier Base Layeris available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

Good but not perfect

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm a big fan of Pearl Izumi but I wouldn't recommend this shirt. It's not bad but its not near as warm as some other base layers that I already have. I was looking to avoid having to wear a jacket on winding days but this doesn't do the trick. The bottom line is its an ok base layer, but if its cold and windy your going to need to wear something over it. The quality of construction is excellent. I will continue to use it a lot but when it wears out, I try a different product.

Love it!

Does a surprisingly good job of insulating the heat even when it gets wet, dries quickly to boot.
I use it for skiing as well.
