Formfitting: Conforms to the body's contours.
Slim Fit: Closer fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.
Regular Fit: Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through the thigh, lower leg, and cuff.
Relaxed Fit: Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower leg, and cuff.
How to Measure:
Measurements refer to body size, not garment dimensions. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Inseam:
Inseam varies depending on style; when lengths are offered "regular" is 32in (81cm) and "long" is 34in (86cm) unless otherwise noted. Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
Sleeve:
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.

Not a Daisy Duke !

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Finally a running short that the length doesn't make you look like that dude with his cheeks hanging out . Been looking for a running short that is light breathable and not to short. I really like the rear zip pocket for keys ,cash , or I.D. And I don't find the envelope pocket a bother at all . I use then to pack gels and not worry bout the bouncing out on the trail.

When will I learn?

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

That Patagonia just does not fit me! smh
I loved the short: great colour, seemed like great build, just too darned small. I'm 6' 200lb & typically wear an XL in running shorts (Brooks, The North Face, Asics) & these fit more like a large in those brands. They fit more like a Salomon short.
So it just dependson how you're built: if it fits, I think it would be an awesome short

Great performance and comfort

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are a great simple running short. With two side pockets that are perfect for an ID, spare cash, or an iPod, and a rear zippered pocket the essentials for a couple hour run are there. When loaded up, the waist band does a great job keeping the shorts in place and you out of a 90s rap video.

The best part is probably the feel of these shorts. With a soft and light touch you barely notice they're on. The short isn't only comfortable, heat and moisture are handled 100% while out on the road or trail.

If i had to nit pick, I'd like to see the fabric be a bit tougher to push these in the durability department went out on the trail or hiking but these are running shorts and perform great as them.

Pockets inconvenient

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The fabric is nice and light, though the mesh fabric on mine frayed at the seam for the entire length of the short. The side pockets are mesh and they have a mesh flap over them, envelope style. I race ultramarathons and find these pockets inconvenient to quickly access or stuff into.

Nice active shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've logged away a decent amount of miles on the trail in these shorts and am very impressed. They are lightweight and non-restricive but offer enough length that I don't feel like I'm wearing short-shorts. They allow for extra airflow exactly where you need it and they do a great job of staying out of the way. Nice to have some small pockets on the sides and back for keys, iPod, etc. while running. I've worn these during a few yoga sessions and have been equally impressed with their performance there. Really nice shorts!

Venerated classic keeps killing it.

I've had many pairs of the Nine Trails over the years and really like the feel of the fabric and the quickness of drying out when they get wet or you sweat. I will agree with Jason below in that they feel a bit tighter in the same size as some of my other pairs from years ago. The key/gel pockets are pretty secure and can actually fit an iPhone 5 in there if you forget your Shuffle for the trail.

Venerated classic keeps killing it.

Not bad

I'm 5'10" 185 (32 waist), and the Large are a decent fit. The inner lining is a little tighter than I'd like, so you might think about going up a size for that (I like my shorts to fit on the loose side). The material itself is nice and light, and very comfortable to run in. The rear zip pocket feels a little weird to me, but overall these are decent running shorts.

Pretty decent shorts for working out

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Pretty satisfied with my purchase - size medium. The fit is pretty solid (I'm 5ft 7in w/ 31 waist), and feels just a tad tighter relative to a previous version (from maybe two years ago). I miss having normal pockets in the front (they use "envelope pockets"that I'm not sure if I'll use). Rear zipper pocket is great for carrying ID, and whatever. Overall, solid pair of shorts for working out, running.
