Description

Preventative maintenance -- there's those who get it and those who don't. But, if you're of the earlier sect, you'll appreciate the Park Tool's CG-2.2 Chain Gang Chain Cleaning System. It has everything that's needed to quickly clean your chain, rings, cogs, and pulley's. So, you're able to both prolong the life of your drivetrain and minimize mechanical drag.

This kit includes the CM-5 chain scrubber, GSC-1 Brush, and eight ounces of Park Tool's Chain Bright. All you have to do is added Clean Bright into the CM-5 and spin the cranks. This runs the chain through multiple rotating brushes in order to knock off grime and cut through any buildup. The GSC-1 brush makes quick work of getting into the nooks and crannies found around derailleurs, the cassette, cranks, and chainrings.

  • A quiet chain
  • Better shifting
  • Longer lasting drivetrain

I'm a Believer

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

With winter coming and things getting sloppy on the trails I finally decided to "splurge" on this cleaning system. I've historically been content just wiping down my chain with a rag and breaking out a toothbrush when required before relubing, but this has changed that. The chain on my 3 month old Bronson was definitely no longer silver after a few rainy trips to Pisgah. After a quick 5 minutes of unboxing, pouring, and spinning the pedals, the chain is as clean and shiny as new! Was so stoked I went ahead and used the same container of degreaser on my road bike that the previous owner had seemed to just coat the chain in grease or something. Finally took all that gunk right off! (Note: you're supposed to only use the degreaser once per chain in the instructions, but I was so excited and just wanted to get the gunk off my road bike chain). This thing makes a world of difference to the drivetrain in just a couple minutes. Guess I'm a convert now!

I will warn others that if you have a weird chainline to put your bike in a gear that will spin easily. I accidentally spun the pedals backwards until the chain dropped, which spilled the fluid. User error in my part, just be careful!

Wow!

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I'm pretty picky about keeping my chain clean. A dirty chain wears faster, wears your cassette faster, and your chain rings. They also don't shift as well as a clean chain.

I tested this out on my newly cleaned KMC chain and it still cleaned it so well, the cleaner turned black! Nice to know it's actually clean with this!

Further, my girlfriend is terribly about cleaning her chain and I always thought she had darker inner links...my mistake after she used this on her bike! He chain now looks like chrome!

treat yo'self... and yo' bike

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This is a huge time-saver and will probably inspire you to clean your chain more often than you would without owning one (or something similar.) As the old saying goes, a clean bike is a happy bike, and the drivetrain is a grrreat place to start. This has worked perfectly for the 5 months that I've owned it, my only gripe is that one of the clamps that holds the top and bottom pieces together broke off - it still works fine with just one, but I'm concerned about the other breaking off as well (which would probably make it not work fine.) Despite its self-contained-ness, cleaning chains with this tool can still get pretty messy, so make sure to put something down beneath your bike when you're using it.

My chain is clean!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was very happy with how this tool ended up performing. At a glance I didn't even think my chain was that dirty, but decided to try the tool just because it was new and wanted to see how it worked. I was surprised to see how much crap this tool cleaned out, and the chain looked awesome. It was very easy to load and very easy to run the chain through. Kind of fun to actually do and now seeing how dirty my chain actually was I will definitely clean it more going forward.

Handy Cleaning Set

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

This is great for cleaning my chain off. Scrubbers and brushes do their job well and it keeps you from making a mess.
Only downside is the 8 ounces of Chain Brite solution doesn't go very far. I've cleaned my 3rd chain and it's almost gone according to instructions for amount of solution to use.

Like going to the Dentist.

This tool will pull all the oil, dirt, mud, gravel dust, whatever you rid through, off your chain. Keep your rig healthy with this tool. It's so easy to use and only takes one minute. The brush is stiff nylon so it wont scratch up your chain, cogs, derailleur, or cassette. Big recommendations on this tool. Your rig will love you for it.

    It worked for me.

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I tried this out on a neglected chain I had on an old bike. I put it through a couple times using the provided solvent and I was surprised to see how dirty the chain was. One nice feature of this tool is a little magnet that attaches to the bottom of the cup and pulls down some of the debris. After drying the chain, I lubed it up. There is no question that it improved the performance of the chain.

I think it still might be wise to get a new chain, but between this and a good chain lube I think I will be able to squeeze some more life out of this old chain. It seems to be running very smoothly now.

    DIY'er Must Have

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It did it's job well, and the ChainBrite works great. But you will want to pick up some more as you can go through it pretty quick. It's pretty easy to make a mess, so I recommend you do it outside or in a garage till you get the feel for it.

    Simple process, clean chain

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I nearly forgot how clean my chain could be until I used the Chain Gang Cleaning System. I've heard of some people removing their chain to place it in an empty water bottle with some cleaning solvent and shaking it around. Sounded pretty hacky, so I picked this up and found it to be very simple and not very time consuming.

No worries purchasing additional solvent as I've heard water and dish soap accomplishes the same thing. The manual even suggests this. I'm not a bike expert, but I'm trying to perform all of my bike maintenance without the help of a bike shop and this tool made working with the chain fairly painless.

    great product

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Ive used several other types of chain cleaner on the market but nothing works as well as this one. Its durable and does an excellent job of cleaning the chain. The bottle of CB-2 is an excellent degreaser also. Great product and highly recommended

    Love it

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Here's another five-star review for the Chain Gang. It's easy to use and gets your chain wonderfully clean. As other reviewers have mentioned, you will go through the Chain Brite solution pretty quickly, so I'd recommend picking up an extra bottle of that too.

best basic chain cleaner there is!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I clean my chain about every other ride due to grit that can decrease the life of your chain and cassette. This system and many just like it by other brands works great for quick cleans. At least twice a year I break down my cassette and chain to clean real well with harsher chemicals. Do yourself a favor and buy one of these and do your own maintenance.
