Just one of those things.

This is one of those tools you just need to own. Easy to use, durable, and comes in very handy.

Gotta have it.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

If you are going to change your Shimano or Sram cassette, you've got to have one of these. As usual, Park makes a very functional tool. I prefer the one with the centering pin(FR-5G)-just makes the job a little easier for 2 bucks more.

Another essential for the tool box.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Yep, you are going to need one of these too.
Have you ever heard the term..' Up shit creek without a paddle? ' This is your paddle.

crucial tool

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

You never know when you'll need to swap a cassette, and when you aren't going light enough to warrant the stein hypercracker, this is a good second. Make sure your chain whip is on sturdy and you'll be set.

Good tool to have in the toolbox

I've used this twice already. Very glad to have this in the toolbox.

Best tool I have ever purchased for $5

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you want to change cassettes in your garage, then this is the tool you buy.

Does the job

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This tool is precisely made, fits in to my park socket set to have a socket cassette tool, and has removed many a cassette.

Good Tool

Works great. need to use in conjunction with chain whip. model number FR-5G has the pin, FR-5 comes without. pin helps stabilize tool, both fit xx1.

Spare change for maintenance.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is an inexpensive tool that you will need in order to maintain good care of the cassette of your bike. I ride a lot and once a month I like to give a good tune-up to my bikes, in order to do so, this tool is a most have. If you want to do all repair and maintenance to your bikes by yourself, you'll need this. Very reliable and great quality.

Now that I have my own I don't know how I lived with out it! Coupled with a chain whip and wrench you have all you need to swap out cassettes!

Great quality that you can expect from Park Tools

Great tool

Great tool to have so you can switch out your cogs, definitely going to need a wrench and chain whip to use with this tool.

Must have

Many years ago my local mechanic got sick of me coming in to get cassettes changed. So he sold me one of these. It has saved me so many trips to the bike shop that's for sure! Changing a cassette is something every cyclist should be able to do, and this tool is the best!

So can this be used with other brands of bottom brackets? I have a Truvativ sealed cartridge BB. Thanks!

Responded on

This tool is for a Shimano or Sram cassette-not for bottom brackets.

It works

It works, it works well. I've had the same one for what, 7 years now? I've removed and installed a lot of cassettes in that time. In addition, it handles my centerlock disc rotors nicely as well. You're going to need a big honkin' wrench and a chain whip with it, be warned.

Works well

I don't have much to say about a tool: it does what Park designed it to do--it tightens a cassette lockring just fine. The design and quality seems great to me.

Just like all other Park Tool Tools...

... the Park Tool Cassette Lock Ring removal tool works just as you would expect it to. This will work on Shimano, Sram, Chris King, SunRace and Suntour to name a few.

Invaluable Tool

Gotta have one of these if you are going to change your own back rim or cassette. No problem first time out, easy to understand and use.
