We're sorry to break it to you, but almost all of us are guilty of improperly recovering from our rides and exercise. Yes, even those of us who have been consuming recovery formulas have been doing it wrong. However, it wasn't until the advent of Osmo Nutrition Acute Recovery that we even had the option of doing it right, so don't beat yourself up, too much.

Like Osmo's Active Hydration, its Acute Recovery takes a highly intuitive and specialized approach to post-exercise recovery. Essentially, Acute Recovery is focused on transitioning to the recovery state as quickly as possible. Why? Well, Osmo refers to the first 30 minutes following exercise as the 'golden window' to begin muscle fiber repair and to facilitate the adaptations that your training focuses on. Optimizing this window means that Acute Recovery halts the body's exercise-induced stressors and kick-starts the recovery process upon consumption.

Once the recovery process is underway, Acute Recovery operates along three components: Stopping the body's catabolic response, consuming protein for muscle repair, and restoring the body's glycogen stores. Coincidentally, components one and two are intertwined through protein, and this is where we start to see Acute Recovery's variance to the rest of the market. Instead of following the practice of including only one form of protein, Acute Recovery features two -- whey isolate and micellar casein. Both proteins work to halt the catabolic response (the breakdown of complex molecules to form simpler ones, or more simply put, potential muscle loss) and to introduce the essential nutrients for muscle repair. So, why two proteins? Well, both proteins have varied release times of amino acids, with whey isolate being absorbed quickly and micellar casein being absorbed more slowly. As a result, the body benefits from this staggering by accordingly having access to protein for several hours. However, this runs contrary to most recovery formulas on the market, which place a focus on high loads of carbohydrates and a singular protein source. Osmo found that these kinds of formulas do not accelerate muscle repair, instead, limiting recovery to the restoration of glycogen stores.

So, for component three, restoring the body's glycogen stores, Osmo added a small amount of caffeine to Acute Recovery. As Osmo's peer-reviewed testing confirms, the body's glycogen stores are replenished 66% faster after caffeine consumption. Let's explore the importance of this. Basically, your body uses glucose during exercise for energy, and this glucose is derived from carbohydrates. When your body depletes this energy source, it falls back on its reserves of glycogen, which are starches created by extra glucose that's not in immediate use. These glycogen stores are also the secondary long-term energy storage in the cells of the liver and the muscles -- the first storage is in fats. So, by restoring these glycogen stores, your body essentially get's back to business faster.

Additionally, Osmo further broke the recovery mold by not including any antioxidants in the Acute Recovery formula. Why? A vast body of scientific literature in the area of physical activity adaptations indicates that antioxidants inhibit the body's natural inflammation and oxidation response. As a result, the mitochondrial 'oxygen power house' adaptations are slower. Or, in other words, you'll stay sore for longer. Your body needs the exposure to free radicals and natural inflammation to learn that stress in order to overcome it. So, you'll achieve a higher output sooner with increased training adaptations.

And not only will you recover faster, but you rest with ease knowing that Acute Recovery is made from the finest available ingredients. It uses organic vanilla, whey, and casein. In fact, Osmo even went as far as to source its whey and casein from Norway in order to assure their organic quality, as the United States doesn't have any certification guidelines for these ingredients.

The Osmo Nutrition Acute Recovery is available in one 16 serving case and in the flavor Organic Vanilla.
