Description

Born in the Basque country.

Orbea's Alma Hydro 29 H70 Complete Bike borrows heavily from its carbon fiber Alma, which is widely renowned as a cross-country rocket. So, you'll get quick handling and a race-ready spec that's ready for new riders and seasoned veterans alike.

Orbea borrowed heavily from its carbon fiber Alma when it came time to design the Alma Hydro. The Alma Hydro shares the same tight handling geometry that makes the carbon version so popular, as well as Orbea's signature lines. However, where the difference lies is in the Alma Hydro's triple-butted, 7005 aluminum tubing. Basically, each tube is thicker at the ends than it is in the middle. This formation not only saves weight, but it also works in conjunction with Orbea's hallmark tube shapes in order to provide plenty of compliance. And that means that you'll be comfortable on long rides, whether you're racing or just getting some laps in on your favorite trails.

The front end of the bike is suspended by SR Suntour's XCR fork, which provides 100mm of travel in order to smooth out the trail. Additionally, it has a handlebar mounted remote lockout, so you're able to switch from a smooth ride to all-out efficiency while you're climbing. Orbea's house brand wheels keep you rolling on a stiff and light platform. So, you won't waste unnecessary energy pedaling around on unnecessarily heavy wheels. Additionally, they're wrapped in Geax AKA tires, which are widely popular for their fast rolling, gripp'y tread pattern.

The drivetrain is a blend of Shimano, which features and Acera rear derailleur and shift, as well as an Alivio front derailleur. When combined with the triple chainring crankset and the 11-34t cassette, you not only get quick, crisp shifts, but enough gear range to tackle almost any trail that you come across. Shimano's BR-M395 brakes handle stopping duties, allowing you to slow things down when you approach the edge of control. Rounding out the cockpit is an assortment of Orbea items for the handlebar, stem, and seatpost. And the Selle Italia Q-BIK MTB saddle gives you a comfortable perch to sit on mile after mile.

The Orbea Alma Hydro 29 H70 Complete Bike is available in the sizes Small, Medium, and Large and in the colors Black/yellow, Black/silver/red, White/blue, and White/red.

very good value

I've been looking around for a decent mountain bike to start on and never realized how expensive these things can get. I went to big box store and was unimpressed with the overall quality. I took a chance and ordered this bike even though there weren't a lot of reviews on it, but I'm glad I did. Everything is rock solid. Bike was easy to assemble when it arrived and the quality blew me away for a bike this price. I've seen bikes twice the price that I felt weren't as nice. Looks pretty slick too. Rides smooth especially when I put some 700c tires on for street riding. The included gearx tires are great as well. Overall I simply can't find a fault in the bike - aside from the gears seem to be a little rough but I haven't tweaked with them yet.

Great Value/Aweome Bike

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i have owned this bike in the past and I must say it was one of the best hard tail mtn bikes I ever had. This bike handles very well on the trail and is extremely comfortable on long ride, which is typically unheard of from stiff hard tails. This is do to the slight curved drops in the rear which allow the bike some vertical compliance. It has a nice geometry and the BB30 bb makes the crank area a little stiffer thus allowing ample power transfer to the pedal. This bike is definitely my choice for hard tails on the market and I highly recommend it.

This is an incredible bargain.....

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My wife and I are road bikers who live just outside of Manhattan. We recently purchased two bikes to ride in the New York City because, let's face it, carbon wheels were not designed for city streets.

I purchased the Orbea Alma Hydro 29 H70 bicycle for my wife. This has got to be the bargain of the century. While we are only familiar with road bikes, this bike arrived in perfect condition (nice finish). This didn't surprise us because my wife's road bike is an Orbea Orca. When it arrived, it took 20 minutes to assemble. It even has quick release wheels and front and rear disc brakes. When I completed the assembly, I noticed the weight was surprisingly light for the size of the bike.

The ride on this bike is very comfortable. The front suspension is adjustable. The wheels do not feel heavy as one would expect. The gears shifted effortlessly and the fit was perfect.

I will warn you fellow road bikers......your friends will make fun of you on this bike. One of our friends told her that this bike is the Cadillac Escalade of bikes. It's a real bargain...try it.

This is an incredible bargain.....

It Only Costs How Much?

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Ok, obviously this isn't a carbon fiber $5000 bike or anything like that, but despite it being built like a tank, it is only a few pounds heavier than many $3000-$5000 bikes you will find. The disk brakes are solid, it rides like a Cadillac, and the 29in wheels make you feel like you can ride over any terrain. The only downside is that the gears get a little catchy here and there, but for the price, this is a steal. I'm getting another one very soon.

Stellar deal; excellent ride; buy 1 or 2

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've ridden Orbea road bikes for years and figured I'd try their 29er to replace an aging mountain bike. The Alma H70 is a killer deal especially from Backcountry. I was impressed with the entry-level (Shimano) componentry - it offers crisp, reliable and accurate shifting. The remote lock-out fork is a great feature and I've even used it on the road in foul weather - the 29s roll really well and yet are precise enough for lots of off-road xc riding. I haven't found a miss yet - I'm actually thinking of buying a second one...for my wife, of course - but I'd ride it mostly...
