Chamois are great for long-ride comfort, but when it comes to protection from a miscalculation, they're typically useless. Unless it's the One Industries Exo Short With Chamois. It's equipped with EVA pads along the hips to offer aggressive riders protection from impacts with terra firma.

Impact protection is clutch to keep you riding after a stuffing, but it can also detract from the ride if it's not cut correctly, or limits mobility. One Industries maybe new to the cycling market, but motorized action sports is something they're well versed in. For that reason, you'll find plenty of ventilation throughout the Exo's perforated EVA foam to keep your hammies happy.

The padding is also adequately spaced to allow freedom of movement and nonrestrictive pedaling. Tying the Exo's supportive chamois and padding together is a stretchy, moisture-wicking fabric to ensure not only off-road comfort, but to encourage blood flow and muscle recovery through compression. The Exo's waist and hem are elastic, and they're plenty wide to avoid discomfort from pinching.

The One Industries Exo Short With Chamois comes in Black and sizes Small through X-Large.

Great feel and comfort

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Crashing real hard on pavement because of a stray dog made me decide to buy this. No crashes so far but it's better to be prepared when you do. I ride XC in the Philippines, so it's a bit hot during the day but the fabric feels great.

Under mtb shorts you'd first feel as if something's in your pockets because of the EVA foam but after a few ride's you'll get used to them as they conform to your shape. There are no silicone linings on thigh area but having a good fit, they don't migrate a lot during rides.

Chamois is a little narrow

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

On the first time I worn it I thought I was going to have to return because the chamois felt narrow and rubbed in the wrong place. I decided to wash and wear again and now they fit much better. I have not crashed so I can't tell you much about the padding but I will say the location of the pads seem to be well placed. I looked around alot at other crash protection chamois liners and this seems to be more on the minimal side of padding. Beware because some of the more aggressive protective chamois liners are hard to peddle in because of all the padding. These are not and are perfect for XC/AM use. I suspect if your a real downhiller then you might want something more but for the xc/am user like myself its perfect.

Good Mobile Protection

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This chamois provides hip protection. It is set up so that you could climb all day in comfort. The don't give too much bulk under your baggies but sometimes it does feel like there is something in your pocket. I have yet to fall on these shorts but I sure am excited to!
