Description

The result of three decades of innovation.

Oakley is constantly redefining what sunglasses can do for you, and the Radarlock XL Straight Photochromic Sunglasses are no exception. Photochromic lenses darken and lighten is response to changing light conditions, and if that's not enough, they can be swapped out for other lenses in seconds thanks to Switchlock interchangeable lens technology. With an extra-wide field of vision and a  featherlight O-Matter frame, it's easy to forget you're even wearing sunglasses—until you take them off and realize how much better things looked when you were wearing them.

  • Switchlock interchangeable lens technology makes it easy to change your lens for varied light conditions
  • Photochromic lenses automatically darken in response to sunlight
  • Straight stem geometry allows them to fit comfortably under a helmet
  • Integrated surge ports promote airflow to prevent fogging
  • 19mm nosebridge height creates a larger field of view so you don't have to keep raising your head
  • O-Matter frame is stress-resistant and ultra-lightweight
  • XYZ Optics ensure distortion-free vision for the entire width of the lens
  • Plutonite lens exceeds ANSI 787.1 for impact-resistance and blocks 100% of UVA, UVB, and UVC light
  • Unobtainium hydrophillic nose and temple pads eliminate slipping
  • Patented three-point fit maintains optical alignment
  • Polaric Ellipsoid Technology for peripheral clarity

Here's what others have to say...

vision is good ;)

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

They glasses are perfect for those areas where the sun transitions from light tot dark such as the mountains of colorado. The switch is fast and make downhill runs a little safer, because I can see better . (it still is scary )

One ring to rule them all

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I am a self-admitted addict when it comes to cycling glasses. Radarlocks have been my favorite style, for several reasons. The fit is perfect, they are the lightest weight (and most well-balanced), the frameless (mostly) and single-lens design provides the best field of view, and they fog less than other glasses I own.

I do a lot of early morning rides, and coastal So Cal is typically either foggy, overcast, or you have a bright morning sunrise in your eyes. Or a combination of all of those as the ride progresses. Most of my favorite trails are a combination of shade, canopy, and exposed sunny areas. The soil is light in color and ruts and other hazards can be difficult to identify.

So I went for these, mostly for the Clear Black Iridium Photochromic lens, and also to try the XL style, which provided an unmatched field of view when I tried them on.

I tend to prefer lenses in the 15-18% range, and these are a 10%-66% lens. They never get too dark for me, but always provide enough coverage. The tint itself is pleasing and comfortable. It also really helps with identifying terrain (I am a mountain biker, but I road ride on my MTB to build my base and to avoid muddy trails in winter).

The bad: I feel like a total spaceman wearing them. Yes, that is a fairly pathetic (and vain) complaint. I bought another pair of these in the standard Radarlock models, and tend to wear those more frequently (again, strictly a vanity issue). The XLs are better glasses, though, just by virtue of the field of view.

All said, if I could only own one pair of cycling glasses, these would be the pair. They do it all, and do it well. I am very happy with these, and recommend them highly.

These are the stars in my starting rotation, which right now consists of my TdF Radarlocks with the +Red Iridium lenses, my aforementioned Clear Black Iridium Photochromic Radarlocks, and these.

Great visibility. Not dark enough.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I'm a road cyclist. I rode a few different pairs of Oaks before I landed on these.

The main point of difference on the XLs is the height of the lens. These are tall enough that when you're in the drops, the top of the frames don't block your field of vision. This was not true of the standard Radarlock lenses.

After riding a few months with the photochromic lenses, I had to pick up a set of darker lenses. The photochromic ones don't get dark enough for my taste. Still, these sunglasses are amazing.

Great fit, function, and performance

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The Radarlock XL's fit much better than the old Radar XL's (I own both) and the lens swapping feature is excellent. I can remove and replace the lens almost without touching the surface and putting fingerprints all over it, and it doesn't give me a nervous breakdown thinking I'll break the frame like the old design did (for the record, the frame has yet to break on my old Radar XL's and I have swapped lenses plenty of times). As for the photochromic lens, I'm satisfied but not over the moon about it. I mostly wear these mountain biking, and it seems like the brim of my helmet keeps the lens from fully converting to its darkest tint, even in bright Moab sunlight. If Oakley had included a dark tint spare lens, like Black or Red Iridium, these sunglasses would be perfect. My only other complaint is that while the smaller, more rounded lens performs slightly better and looks sportier, it loses a bit of the square Terminator style I love about the Radar XL. Bottom line, I'm still giving these five stars for function and fit.

Responded on

You got a spare lens with these? I bought mine directly from Oakley, and it only came with the one lens...

Responded on

@ Big Papa: sorry, I lied. I got a free clear spare lens with mine; I don't think they come with one. They should, though.

Great For Cycling

I use these sunglasses for road cycling. I go early in the morning before the sun comes up during weekdays and when it is very sunny on the weekends. I ride between 75-175 miles per week. I love these glasses. They are big enough to block the wind on cold downhills. They become almost clear when there is no sun and are pretty dark on sunny days. They fog minimally.
