Item # OAK3232

A high-performance sport shade that adapts to the many hours you spend raging outside.

The Oakley Fast Jacket comes in two styles. The XL is the one with the larger lenses. As with the Fast Jacket, you're getting Oakley's latest advance, the Switchlock, applied to open edge lens architecture. You get the benefits of their race-specific Jawbone in a style that is technical enough to be worn during hard riding and casual enough to hang out at the beach.

Looking at the Fast Jackets, you notice the stainless steel Switchlock. Put a pair in your hands, you can feel how light and balanced they are. Put them on and look into the distance, then down at your watch, then over to the corner, and you'll see the benefits of having pinch-free lens mounting. Like the Jawbone, the Fast Jacket has a hinge, Switchlock technology they call it, that locks the lenses into place. This means that it's easy to change lenses, and there is absolutely no distortion whatsoever, taking Oakley's famed XYZ Optics up another notch.

The Switchlock is easy. Open it up, the lens drops out. Insert the lens, lock the stainless steel Switchlock lever, and the lens is firmly in place. Aesthetically, the finished stainless adds nice visual pop to the already attractive package. The XL in the name means the lenses are larger, with more coverage than the Fast Jacket.

The Oakley Fast Jacket XL comes in three colors, and each comes with two sets of lenses. One is for sunny days, the other for overcast. The Chrome FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) comes with Blue Iridium and Jade Iridium lenses. The Lemon Peel comes with Fire Iridium and Persimmon lenses. The Polished Black comes with Black Iridium and Persimmon lenses. The lenses come packaged in a soft vault (aka hard case). Finally, the glasses also come with two sets of nosepieces to best customize fit.

  • Both lens sets are made with impact-resistant Plutonite with a glare-reducing Iridium coating to enhance optical clarity, especially on the road or water
  • Lens blocks 100% of UV rays and harmful blue light up to 400nm
  • The highly curved 8.75 base lens geometry ensures better peripheral coverage to keep the setting sun out of your eyes
  • Three-point fit means that the adjustable, interchangeable Unobtainium nose pads and temple grips keep the shade secured and react with your sweat to increase grip during activity
  • Oakley's cushioned lens suspension system and XYZ Optics reduce distortion in all peripherals while riding or running
  • The lens features a frameless bottom for maximizing your field of vision
  • The XL suits extra large face sizes

Wonderful Price and great product

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I have owned many pairs of Oakley's and these stand up to the high quality I have come to love about Oakley. They are stylish and just right for activities where you perspire a lot and glasses don't slip.

Just ordered!

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I just ordered a pair, sight unseen, and am super stoked to be getting them!

Where I'm coming from: My only real complaint about my Flak Jackets, even in the XLJ, is that they leak light while MTBing and I find that distracting. Here in So Cal, it's bright on most rides, and leaking light is a reality. Additionally, the terrain tends to be dry and loose, with hella debris coming up from your tires. I've had stuff make it past the Flaks to my eyes. My Racing Jackets solve both those issues, and I have grown to love those, but sometimes I find the lower frame to be distracting, and they do fog up more easily than the Flaks or Radars, especially on cooler morning rides and on longer, sustained climbs.

So I am hoping that the Fast Jackets will strike a good middle ground: more light and debris coverage than the Flaks, and better venting and peripheral view than the Racing Jackets. I should be able to get a ride in with them when they arrive this week, and I will update my review in a few weeks when I have some trail time with them under my belt.

I love Oakley style.

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I have the Polished black w/ black iridium lenses.

I've played with the quick release and it works great. I end up just leaving in the darker of the 2 lenses (that came with them) in 99% of the time. I need to get some of the polarized lenses that I like but they are a bit pricy and available only on the Oakley site from the searching that I have done.

Over all they are rugged and stand up to my substantial use/abuse while rock climbing camping. They still look great for kickin around town.

I love Oakley style.

Great Glasses

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

These glasses are the best Oakley has made. Fit is spot on and the interchange lens system is easy and hassle free. If you are looking for the new best this is it. Definitely grab these even if you don't need them you will love them!

Pretty Big

  • Gender:Male

I guess I shouldn't complain about the fact that they're big since they are called the XL, but they really are just a bit wide, at least for MY face. The trade-off however, is the great coverage this provides. I compare them to the flaks, and the splits which I also own, and would have to say the coverage is better for sure, but the look seems to be a little more bulky, and as said in the "Zach Pina" review, they feel slightly heavier on the face despite Oakley's claim to similar weights.

Over all, I won't downplay them too much. (4 stars) Because I wear them all the time, and the Jade lens with the crome frame is a sweet combination. And the easy switch to other lenses is by far easier than either of the aforementioned. Peace.

Wonderful glasses

I got these glasses before the third day of track nationals, and they are a huge step up from my old Ryder VTXs, which were already great glasses. They have since withstood almost daily abuse. the optical clarity is fantastic, the lens swaps are simple, and the frame is very lightweight. five stars, ill be using fast jackets for quite a while.

    flak is finally outdated

The Fast Jacket is the latest in a long line of pieces in the 'Jacket' line (Half Jacket, Straight Jacket, Flak Jacket, etc.), and quite unequivocally, the greatest. Finally, a design that brings everything to the table; Oakley's amazing optics, a lightweight and comfortable frame, excellent facial coverage (lenses are significantly larger than the Flaks), and a truly interchangeable lens system (easier than even the Jawbone, whose Switchlock tends to stiffen over time). Nice being able to change lenses without a flowchart, or fear of breaking the frame, as common with previous Jacket iterations. Granted, because of the alloy elements in the Switchlock functionality, the Fast Jacket is somewhat heavier than a Radar or a Flak Jacket, however, according to Oakley, their weight is actually identical to that of the Jawbone.

Extremely impressed with this piece - another true evolution in sports sunglasses.
