Description

Striker.

Northwave started out making snowboard boots and moved into cycling shoes in 1993. Since then it has emerged as one of the top innovators in the industry. The Northwave Striker SBS Mountain Bike Shoe is a perfect example of the how this Italian company is taking a different approach to design and setting new standards in the industry. Not only are we impressed with the quality and light weight of the Striker, but we were also struck by how much attention has gone into every aspect of the shoe.

The SBS (Step By Step) ratcheting system provides stable closure that won't come undone or loosen up while you ride. It allows you to dial in a precise fit so you can maximize pedaling efficiency without having to deal with hot spots and blisters. The ASR 2 (Ankle Strap Regulation 2) system is an adjustable EVA foam strap on a lightweight toothed band that can be centered on any ankle shape for greater comfort.

The carbon composite Speedlight 3D soleplate is much lighter than other, less costly sole materials. It also allows Northwave to reduce sole thickness for direct power transfer from your foot to the pedal. Northwave uses only natural rubber in its soles because natural rubber provides superior grip on wet or muddy terrain. The Striker also features Omega Heel, which designed to provide traction and protection and features rear vents that let hot air leave the shoe.

In fact, overheating is a dead issue with Northwave's advanced Aerator ventilation system. Large mesh vents on the toe and the sides of the shoe allow cool air to enter while hot air passes through the Omega heel. The ventilated Performance Pro footbed with lightweight anatomical arch support allows air to flow all around your foot during a ride, and the breathable microfiber upper lets your foot regulate its temperature naturally.

Northwave Striker SBS Shoes come in Red/black, Black/green, Black/grey, and White/black. They are available in whole sizes 37 to 47 and half sizes 39.5 to 45.5.

  • Speedlight 3D sole resists flex, and provides a wide distribution of pressure to eliminate hot spots
  • Microfiber upper wicks perspiration, and allows maximum air flow for hot-weather comfort
  • Performance Pro Footbed supports the foot for fatigue reduction, and long-ride comfort
  • Aerator vent system guides air through the shoe and around the foot for maximum cooling
  • S.B.S. closing system allows quick, one-handed tightening, or losing for temperature and comfort regulation
  • 2 hook-and-loop straps provide a secure, infinitely adjustable fit
  • Omega Heel prevents heel lift to avoid blistering, or wasted energy

Great shoes so far.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these to replace my old pair of Scotts. I have a difficult foot to fit and these NorthWave Strickers fit but barely. They run a full size small. I wear a 10.5 but the shoes that fit me are 44.5 which according to their chart should be = to 11.5. I suggest buying a full size bigger than the chart. Besides that they are great. stiff and comfortable. For the price I paid they are a fantastic buy and I strong recommend them.

Run small. Smaller than size chart

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

As others have said, these run small. Smaller than the size chart, even. Probably one full Euro size smaller. i.e. I wear a 8.5 US and the 41 was way too small and my toes were still squished up in the 41.5. Seemed like a good shoe otherwise.

Great Shoe!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Definitely lighter than my old specialized. The price is right, the shoe is nice and stiff, and very breathable. Very excited to put more road/cross miles on these. I did size up a half size on the size chart (I am a 9.5/42 and went to a 42.5 and am content with the decision. Only have around 100 miles on these so far, but will be using them a lot more!

Nice shoe but wrong sizing

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Shoe seems nice but sizing information on the website was not right for my feet. I have never worn any shoe size greater than size 11 in my life. Ended up much too small.

performs well but falls apart

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First real xc shoe coming from the Shimano DX series shoes. Way stiffer and much better for weighting the bike on corners.

Unimpressed with the construction. The anchor for the ankle strap broke on mine as it is exposed to the crank arm. Luckily I don't need to use the larger volume holes as they would be unusable.

New Shoes!!

I love these shoes! This is the second pair of NorthWave shoes that I've owned. The first were twelve years old in May 2013. The Northwave Striker is comfortable, stiff and cool, really, cool and ventilated. A far more sophisticated riding shoe than my first pair, of course. And...they look very nice. I would recommend these shoes to anyone, mtn bike or road. What do I know anyway? I' just happy with my new shoes! TM

Great shoes

Nice and stiff but still comfy. If get a size smaller--so if you wear a size 46 SIDI get a 45 in these. The toe box is nice and roomy but not so much that they feel sluggish.

Great shoes. Great price.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these shoes to replace an old set of specialized shoes. These shoes are nice and stiff and really comfortable. As is typical with Northwave, the toebox is a little more roomy than say a SIDI. I think it's nice because you can wear a set of woolies without getting to cramped. I normally wear a 46 in a SIDI and I ordered 45s and they were just the right fit.

Nice shoe

I recieved these as a warranty replacement from Northwave for my Aerlite SBS shoes that were coming apart . First impression was they are very ventilated. The mesh uppers breathe very well. The sole isn't carbon or carbon reenforced, so the sole is nowhere near as stiff. Having ridden a carbon soled shoe for the last six years, I am noticing the difference in sole stiffness, particularly on longer rides. The arches of my feet seem to fatigue over 50k, which is something I have never noticed. For winter riding I don't think the mesh upper will be very warm, but a decent set of shoe covers should fix that.

Quality so far is A+
Sizing is the same as my Aerlites so it is 1 size larger than my old Aerators.

Spookyload, check this out: http://www.northwave.com/_pdf/pdf/2011-tecnologie/mtb.pdf

You are correct, it is NOT the sole... rather the plate (the cleat slider), that is reinforced with carbon.
