Narrow shoe w/Wide Toe Box

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I have NW road shoes as well, had to order one size larger in the MTB shoe, to accomodate thicker socks (I use these on my CX bike) and to allow a little movement for running and jumping barriers. Nonetheless, the shoes fits nicely narrow through the instep, with a wide toe box. Heel cup is the best of anything I've tried. Now I just need to get fast on the CX bike ...

great shoe for the money

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Just be aware of sizing, I wear a 41 Sidi and went to a 40.5 in the northwave. the northwave don't fit me quite as well as the Sidi since I have a narrow foot and don't love the wider toe box but for the money I couldn't pass them up and have been happy with them. I use them for cross, mtn, and indoor training. They have held up well for a few months of abuse now.

Go with Euro sizing, not US

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

In my opinion, the Northwave Sparta SBS is a great entry level shoe. It ticks all the right boxes: Good lockdown, the ratcheting strap is adjustable in millimeter increments, and it's breathable without freezing your toes off at 60. My advice is to go with the Euro sizing, because I believe that Northwave is a size or so off. The sizing on my shoes (I ordered a 42.5 EU) was correct, however, the packaging listed the shoes as a 10.5. The shoes were a 42.5 or 9US. Highly recommend these shoes for beginning mountain/cyclocross riders, but double check that you got the EU size, not the US.

Hey Bill,

These will work with all SPD type pedals including Shimano SPD, Time ATAC and Crank Brother models, which you'll find here at Backcountry. They are not compatible with road pedals though. My favorite is the Time ATAC, as they're easy to enter and exit and allow lots of float which eliminates achy knees. Give us a call and we'll make sure that you're hooked up with a great pedal for your riding abilities.

Size info...They run small

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I ordered a pair in 10.75 US. I wear a 10.5 US. They run small, especially in the toe box. Right off the bat they were feeling uncomfortable so I'm just returning them. I recommend ordering at least a half size up. Other than that, a seemingly well made shoe. I like the latching action on the fastener. I went with some Lake MTB shoes from a different vendor.

I tried on a Shimano shoe in a 46.0EU and I wear a size 11US, the size chart for this shoes shows a 44EU equal to a 11US whats up are EU sizes that varied by brand?
