Not so warm...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I used these several times last season and 2-3 times this season and have not had good luck keeping my feet warm. If it gets down below 50 degrees or so, my feet start getting chilly even with thick socks. Below 40F and I can't keep my feet warm at all even with fleece sock and toasty toes. I think they are good for fall riding or cross maybe, but biking in the cold, and especially the snow, is a no go for me...which I do a lot.

Warm and Comfy

So far so good. I bought the shoes a size larger than my standard mtb shoes with the idea that I would be wearing larger/thicker wool socks with them. I normally wear a 42 and ordered a 43. I would say that these shoes run about a half size larger than normal. Basically they are a little too big. However, once pedaling they feel fine.

The velcro closures work great as does the boa system. Cleat mounting is straight forward as well.

Rode with them in 45 degree weather and my feet were definitely toasty. I plan on using them in temps as low as the mid 20's over the winter. I suspect they will work just fine and definitely better than shoe covers. The problem with shoe covers being that they fit quite snug around your standard shoes and when thicker socks are added, this makes for a fairly tight fit thus cutting down on some of the blood flow to your feet. Honestly, for the price of the shoes vs a really nice set of shoe covers, you are only talking about $30-40 (shoes were on sale for $108). Well worth the extra money imo.

Warm and Comfy

Considering buying my first pair of winter...

Considering buying my first pair of winter cycling shoes. Decided to go with the Celsius GTX. But I am a bit confused by the correct fit for winter shoes.

I am a solid size 9 and longtime Sidi 43 for mtb and road shoes. The Northwave chart shows a size 9 = 41.

How do the Northwaves compare in fit, especially room on the toebox? I have read that winter shoes should size up at least one size, What size would you recommend .

Responded on

I am a 45 in a Sidi road and mtb shoe. With the NW Celsius, a size 45 has about 1/2 thumb width of room between my toes and the end of the shoe - a medium weight wool sock with thin liners underneath fits fine. Anything heavier than a medium weight wool sock and the 45s are too tight. I'll probably go with a size 46.

Silly Sizing...

So... Northwave's sizing is just silly... I check the charts on both HnR and N-Wave's site and they both said 10.5US=43EU. I usually take a 44.5 in Shimanos and others, but I figure they know their own last and sizing... so I order the 43.
Way too small. Returned.
Fail.
Can we get a standard, please?
I liked the shoe itself otherwise, so it gets 3 stars.

Great Shoe, Awesome Deal !

After reconstructive ankle surgery, it's been nearly impossible to find ANY shoes that fit comfortably, let alone biking shoes. I'm SO thrilled with these, as the fit is great, both supportive and comfortable. The speed-lacing system is very easy and secure. Overall, these are my favorites of any MTB shoe I've ever owned. No more painful foot, heel, or numb toes !! Sizing was right on the money, and while they aren't exactly wide, they are certainly more roomy than the more typical narrow-width shoes. The few minutes I spent ahead of my purchase w/the gear expert on chat was WELL worth the time.
