Coming or going, you want to be seen, and a good headlight/taillight team on your bike can be worth its weight (or more) in gold. For brightness and value, it's tough to beat a duet like the NiteRider Lumina Micro 250 Headlight and Solas Taillight Combo.
It may be the smallest in the cordless Lumina family, but at 250 lumens, the Micro is still far brighter than the average light out there — figure most range anywhere from 25-100 lumens. The LED bulb and lithium-ion battery are encased in a sleek, weatherproof, and very durable single-piece body. It features a flash mode and four steady light levels — high, medium, low, and walk. The light will last 1.5 hours at 250 lumens (high), 2.75 hours at 120 lumens (medium), 4 hours at 80 lumens (low), and 14 hours at 20 lumens (walk).
Out back is where you'll want to put the Solas taillight. The 30-lumen LED light has four modes (two flash and two steady) including a low, steady "Group Ride Mode" to save fellow riders from annoyance if you're riding in a pack.
Both the NiteRider Lumina Micro 250 Headlight and Solas Taillight are rechargeable via USB. The Lumina can be installed on a helmet, or on a handlebar with an included quick-release mount. The Solas can install on your seatpost or seatstay, or clip onto a saddle bag or backpack. Charging each takes about 3.5-4 hours. The Lumina assembly weighs 126 grams, while the Solas weighs 73 grams.
