Urban commuters, rejoice.

When riding in urban areas at night, there's often plenty of light, so the problem isn't seeing what's in front or around you — the problem is being seen by motorists. You could drop some bigger money on a heavy-duty light set, but to keep it light, keep it simple, and keep it relatively inexpensive, we heartily recommend the NiteRider Lightning Bug Headlight and Stinger Taillight Combo.

The Lightning Bug 120 headlight and Stinger taillight make a great team.  They're entirely waterproof, and snap on and off your bike easily with durable silicone bands and no tools required. The Lightning Bug packs 120 lumens of power and the Stinger cranks out 20 — both very bright for being so compact and weighing no more than 40 grams each.

The NiteRider Lightning Bug Headlight and Stinger Taillight Combo comes with two USB cables so you can recharge each light simultaneously.

Great Value

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are great for my commuter. I wouldn't use them when I needed a lot of light or on a trail but for around town it is great.
At first I couldn't get the rear light to work but after letting it fully charge it has worked great and don't have any problems or complaints.
I got a few as gifts so all my friend's can now see in the dark.

Adequate, not Stellar

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cool little lights, but not sure I'd pay full retail price for them. For that price, I'd imagine you can purchase a light thats better at letting you see, rather than letting you be *seen*. There's usually city light around, so thats all I needed them for - to be seen by cars.

With that being said, they're great for that. Easy attachments. Easy charging (2 USB cables included) with instructions for indicators of battery life. For example - "when it blinks blue there is over 25% battery life" - don't quote me on that stat though. They are low profile too. My only concern with them would be theft (when leaving your bike somewhere) b/c they can easily be removed in a matter of seconds from your bike.

Great Deal

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Sounds like the other reviewer had a very unfortunate experience, hopefully our customer service got them sorted out. Just wanted to add my $0.02, I bought these for my girlfriend's commuter bike and they seem great so far. Super bright, comes with two cables so you can charge both at once, and takes seconds to put on and take off.

Tail lights do not turn on.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I don't know if Backcountry got a bad batch or if the Stinger is not manufactured properly. The original Stinger I received would not turn on. The charge light works, it went from red to blue, indicating a full charge. However, pushing on the lens did not turn on the light. I ordered a replacement set thinking that I received a defective unit. My second Stinger had the exact same issue: blue light when plugged in but would not turn on.

I really liked the design and look of this combo. The headlight worked well. I'll have to look elsewhere for a front and rear kit.
