Disc brakes shift the toll of braking from the rim to the hub. The harder the braking, the higher the speed, the more the hub has to take the brunt of the changes in force and heat build up. The Shimano Saint HB-M10 front hub has been built with these rigors in mind.
The Centerlock rotor mount spreads the force on the hub into a much greater area than any six-bolt mount. This stresses the hub less, thus calling for less bulk in the hub shell and makes rotor removal much, much easier. The taller flanges and wider hub shell also spread out the area that has to deal with the forces that braking puts on the hub. A widely-mentioned feature of Shimano hubs is angular contact bearings. These bearings are loose. Shimano strongly believes the loose bearings roll better. What rarely gets mentioned are bearing seals. Shimano has come up with a completely new design for the seals, using labyrinth and lip seals to improve the hub's ability to keep dirt out by 400%.
The Shimano Saint HB-M810 front hub comes drilled for 32 or 36 spokes. The axle is a 20mm thru-axle design. The hub is designed to accept a standard Shimano Centerlock compatible disc rotor and comes with the lock ring. The hub turns on angular contact bearings. The bearings run on Cubic Boron Nitride cone and cup races. The hub shell is anodized aluminum. Over lock nut distance is 110mm. The perimeter circle diameter for the left side is 52mm. The flange diameter is 61.5mm. The flange distance is 61.6mm. The offset is 5.6mm. Black with Gold accents. 226g. MSRP is $110.
