Chris King is methodical -- that's what we love about him. King products are well thought out, perform beautifully, and last a lifetime. But it's this same methodical nature that has kept us waiting for the Chris King 1.5 NoThreadset. King has been studying the loads applied, the needs of the extreme rider, and, of course, the rider's wants. The last part was the easiest -- for those that want the best, look no further.
The Chris King 1.5 NoThreadset has all the same features as the standard NoThreadset, plus a PreLoader. The PreLoader is a specially machined slender "anchor" that effectively replaces the star nut. It's fully adjustable for different length steerer tubes, and it slips in through the bottom of the fork's steerer. The screw from the top cap threads in the PreLoader anchor, and tensions the headset, frame and fork together. Very cool.
King actually manufactures their own sealed cartridge bearings -- they’re fully serviceable, and they’re made from surgical grade stainless steel. The constant contact seals you get on a King are easily removed to allow for user servicing, yet provide an impervious barrier to the worst grit and grime of riding. King seals protect the bearings so well that we commonly hear of King headsets that are 10, and even 15 years old, that have never been serviced and still run like new. We expect nothing different here as King still provides the same 10 year warranty. Nine anodized colors: Black, Pewter, Silver, Navy, Red, Green, Gold, Pink, and Mango.
