With the new XT 770, Shimano is taking Deore ever so closer to XTR. And one of the finest examples is the SL-M770 XT RapidFire Plus Shift Levers. This is a dramatic step up in function from the old XT. It's not quite as light, nor as jewel-like in the finish as XTR, but the levers are very close in feel and appearance, the shifters can be moved (via two bolts) on the clamp for more ergonomic positioning, and the gear indicator can be removed and re-installed easily. Having the optical gear display (OGD in Shimanoland) float in position means it's easy to put in a remote suspension lockout without jamming the bars or pulling out the Dremel.

The great thing about RapidFire is how simple it is to operate and how easy it is to use. It works like RapidFire always has -- only better, smoother, faster, and we feel they'll even last longer than ever before. The two-way release trigger allows the thumb or fingers to shift up or down. The instant release button works in a flash to work with the spring tension. And with RapidFire, you're not married to using Shimano brake systems if you like keeping your drive train and stopping systems separate.

The Shimano SL-M770 XT RapidFire Plus shift levers work with three chain rings up front and nine cogs in back. They are designed to work best with Shimano XT derailleurs. They are designed to work best with top-normal rear derailleurs, though it can work with low-normal derailleurs, only it will reverse the direction of your shifts. The handlebar mounting bracket is designed to work both inboard and outboard of the brake levers. 260g for the pair. MSRP $149.99.
