Titanium. Yes. Titanium. Another ti spindled MTB pedal. A ti spindled pedal with a carbon fiber body. It's light and expensive, but neither the lightest nor most expensive. But the Look Quartz Carbon Titanium Pedal might have the strongest spindle of the ti spindled MTB pedals on the market. An oversized 12mm titanium spindle within the pedal body better resists bending forces.
That strength is worth a lot if you want light and durable. It means more abuse and less fear. It means confidence. It could be the difference between getting a ti spindled pedal and sticking with chromoly.
The Look Quartz Carbon Titanium Pedal looks largely the same as the Chromoly pedal, save the red bump stop ring. It is the same on the outside. The difference is the inside. The spindle is larger inside the pedal -- a 12mm spindle vs. a 10mm spindle -- and runs on not one, but two sets of ball bearings on the inside edge. These are smaller balls than are on the Chromoly to account for the larger spindle diameter.
The Look Quartz Carbon Titanium Pedal has an injection-molded carbon pedal body. The body runs on three sets of bearings, two sealed ball on the inside, and one set of needle bearings on the outside. The bearings run on an oversized titanium axle. The stack height is 12mm. There is float of plus or minus 3-degrees. The pedal comes with two cleats, one that releases at 15 degrees and one that releases at 20 degrees. The cleat position has lateral adjustability of +/- 15mm. In addition to the two different cleats, there are six shims to customize the float resistance; two 2mm, two 1mm, and two .5mm. The distance from the crankarm to the center of the pedal is 53mm (same as Look Keo road pedals). The pedals are black with silver springs and red bump stop rings, and they come with a two year warranty. The weight is 99g/pedal. System weight for two pedals, cleats and mounting hardware is 246g.
