Introduced in 2006, the Formula Oro Puro brake became an instant staff favorite. They’re absolutely amazing. From the specs, to the parts in boxes, to the assembly to the riding, to the support, everything has been excellent. It is clear that Formula spared no expense when designing the Puro -- pure gold.

At the lever end, there’s a compression-molded, high gloss carbon lever blade, the Feeling Control System which allows you to change the lever’s pivot point for optimal feel, a lever that can be used on the right or left, a lever clamp that can be removed without taking off the shifters or grips, alloy and titanium fasteners, and Kevlar-braided hoses to prevent hose expansion when the system is under extreme compression and heat.

At the caliper, the innovations continue. A post-style mount so you don’t have to mess with shims. Large 22mm pistons for massive stopping power. The caliper is vented for cooling. Add the titanium and alloy hardware, and the total weight (341g per wheel) is about as light as it gets.

As stated above, the Formula Oro Puro is a spare-no-expense brake. The price reflects all the parts, save the rotor, for a single wheel. Rotors are sold separately with the appropraite adaptor. Formula uses DOT 4 brake fluid, which is less temperature-sensitive than mineral oil.

Please note: almost all hydraulic brake lines need to be cut to size before a bike is properly shod with hydraulic disc brakes. You'll need a quality cable-cutter like the Park CN-10 and a spoke to first cut and then de-crimp the housing. Weights break down as follows:

341g (entire kit including 160mm rotor)

+32g for 180mm rotor

+62g for 200mm rotor
