Ergon, the maker of the Ergon GX2, seems like it could be someone's name. Like Ergon Schiele. But it's more appropriately a shortening of ergonomics. Regardless, the Ergon GX2 is a perfect application of ergonomics, which is, according to Random House Webster's College Dictionary, "an applied science that coordinates the design of devices, systems, and physical working conditions with the capacities and requirements of the worker."
The Ergon GX2 Carbon is a great race grip because it embodies ergonomic, which we fancifully end with a "k" as tribute to Germany. It starts with the GX1, and adds an integrated bar end. As with other Ergon integrated ends, this bar end is small, strong, secure, totally adjustable, and perfectly integrated with the GX1 grip. The end comes in magnesium or carbon. The shape flows smoothly into the GX1 grip so that the palm has got the end and the grip for support. As with the other Ergon grips, the end is called a "three-finger"; grab with the thumb, index, middle, and ring, and relax the pinky.
In terms of adjustment, Ergon has measuring marks so that the left grip can be lined up exactly like the right—or different if that's what's more comfortable for you.
The clamp tightens via a 4mm Allen key that is underneath the bar end and is designed to take not more than 7nm of torque. The grip is 132mm long, with a 91mm bar end, giving a total usable length of 118mm. The left and right grips are mirror images of each other. The grips come with end plugs and mounting instructions. 188g. Available in Black/Grey.
