Every rider has to choose a seat position that sits somewhere on the continuum of optimum pedaling efficiency and optimum handling efficiency. A higher seat might yield more efficient power transmission, but a lower seat might yield a better weight distribution for jumps, turns, and drops.

The Crank Brothers Joplin R seatpost allows riders to have it both ways. The higher position for pedaling and the lower position for handling, thanks to a handlebar-mounted joystick that activates a sliding seatpost. The old-skoolers will remember the Hite-Rite from their Fisher Mount Tam. Others might think of the Maverick Speedball.

Good ideas are timeless. This post is great to set up so that the basic position is that for optimal pedaling efficiency, and then one can tilt the joystick to drop a little or hold to drop all the way. Just stop pedaling and push the saddle down with your butt. Want it to go back up after that Jesus descent? Just get your butt of the saddle and let it rise to the original height.

The Crank Brothers Joplin R Seatpost is 382mm long. Both the inner and outer shafts are made from aluminum. The post adjusts 75mm (3-inches) once it is clamped in a seat clamp. The remote is a joystick mounted on a handlebar clamp. The joystick attaches to 140cm of derailleur cable housing and runs up the back of the post. A derailleur cable is what releases the clamp lock. The seatpost clamp itself is infinitely adjustable for both fore-aft and tilt. The colors are black anodized shaft, gold anodized stanchion, orange thread ring and seat clamp hardware. There is a two-year warranty with the post. The post can be converted to a lever release as well. The post comes in two diameters 30.9mm and 31.6mm. 534g.
