YETI 575 CARBON
Apex, Green Mountain, and Hogback are three trails within lunchtime riding distance of Yeti's Golden, CO headquarters. They form a trail-testing trifecta that helped define the 146mm (5.75") travel Yeti 575. This bike was conceived and developed during these rides right out the warehouse door. For those that don't know, they earn their turns in Golden. All rides go straight up into the mountains before coming back down. The 575 Carbon is a scream when the fork points towards the valley floor below, but it was made to be equally capable of riding to the top.
Since Yeti does their prototyping at the bottom of the hill, it's safe to assume that they made plenty of changes to arrive at this master-of-the-mountain, the 575. It looks like a longer legged great uncle to the AS-R bikes, especially the AS-R 5. Don't be fooled, the AS-R bikes pedal like race bikes. The 575 strays a bit more to the fun side of our sport. It can be pedaled hard and aggressive riders will feel at home on the 575. It's just that the rear suspension is designed with a shock rate that gives it more bump compliance than the AS-R 5. That's why the 575 riders always get back down to the shop first on the Yeti lunch rides.
The 7005 aluminum main triangle sets the tone with a 68 degree head angle -- just steep enough to keep the bike from wallowing at slow speeds, but slack enough to give it inspiring high speed stability. The hydroformed top tube drops down and away from the 1-1/8" head tube to allow plenty of standover clearance and provide a solid attachment point for the Fox RP23 (View our set-up video) rear shock. The rear triangle is made mostly of carbon fiber, save for the pivot mounts and the dropouts are aluminum for durability. One special feature is that Yeti's engineers treat the most rearward end of the seatstay like a leaf spring and design it to be just flexible enough to accommodate any geometrical changes in the rear triangle as the suspension moves through its range. This system is lighter and stiffer than a common bearing pivot that you might see on other bikes.
Speaking of bearings, the main pivot on the 575 uses oversized sealed cartridge bearings for long life and smooth suspension performance. The oversize nature of the bearings and the huge carbon chainstays make for a flex-free rear end, keeping the rear tire tracking straight and true even through the rockiest of chutes. The rear dropouts accept a standard 10mm quick release rear hub and feature a replaceable hanger should it get damaged.
The Yeti 575 is available in XS, small, medium, large, and XL and comes in four colors -- Team/Turquoise, Anodized Black, White, and Pewter. It requires a 34.9mm clamp traditional, bottom pull front derailleur and a 30.9mm seatpost. It has a 73mm bottom bracket shell and uses a press-in 1-1/8" headset. 5.9 lbs (2680 grams)
