TURNER FLUX
The Turner Flux has long been Turner's most versatile machine, offering a full 4” of travel with no compromise whatsoever to pedaling efficiency. The Flux essentially merges Turner's critically acclaimed 5 Spot with their former cross country rocket, the Nitrous. We think it makes the ideal bike for endurance or marathon racers or those who still enjoy cross-country racing, but enjoy getting out for some “fun time” when not training.
While the Flux has long been a super-efficient race machine with deceptively plush travel, the newest iteration accelerates better than ever thanks in large part to its the dw-link suspension design. Turner was drawn to the dw-link because of its anti-squat characteristics. By virtue of Newton's Third Law of Motion, when something accelerates, its mass is transferred rearward. The dw-link design both counteracts this transfer and allows the axle-path to change to meet the demands of the trail -- as a result, the Flux delivers like never before. It uses a 6.5 x 1.5" Fox Float RP23 rear shock (View our set-up video) to acheive its 100mm of travel, oriented to specifically enhance small bump sensitivity and traction, float over rocks, roots and ruts, yet still remain firm while hammering out of the saddle. In short, the Flux adapts to virtually any situation you throw it in.
The Flux still uses Turner's trademark bushings with zerk fittings at the pivots, not bearings. The zerks are now crafted from stainless steel, and screw into the frame (as opposed to past iterations which pressed in), which means that your zerks will stay put. Turner enthusiastically touts the benefits of their proprietary bushing system over bearings, citing the incredibly tight tolerances, low and easy maintenance, long life, all of which translate into a torsionally stiff rear swingarm that pivots smoothly.
Take a good, long look at the Flux and you'll notice the critical details that set Turner apart: the grease ports at each of the pivots, its flawless welds, the sleek, CNC-machined lines of the swingarm, the boxy rear stays that accentuate stiffness and strength, the reinforcement yoke at the juncture of the seat and top tubes, and an incredibly simple, well thought-out approach to the bike’s design. And almost as if its purpose is to keep your focus on those very technical details, the Flux is powdercoated in your choice of two beautiful colors, and not cluttered with decals.
The disc-specific Turner Flux is available in your choice of Stardust Silver or Sparkle Copper powdercoats in XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL sizes. For those of you 6'5"+ an XXL is available at a $225 upcharge. Or for the weight weenies, with a short wait and no upcharge, you can get it raw -- that's right, no finish whatsoever. Twenty custom colors are available with the following upcharges: $150 (front triangle only) and $200 (both front and rear triangles.) It requires a 30.9mm seatpost and a 34.9 mm Traditional Top Pull Front Derailleur. Post-mount disc brake tabs now provide a clean, direct fit for the brake caliper.
Please note: SRAM XX is compatible, however we recommend only the Q166 crank with 28/42 front chainring configuration due to the height restriction on the front derailleur. Simply put, the derailleur clamp won't slide down the seattube far enough to position the cage as closely to the big ring on the 26/39 as you'd need it to deliver the amazing shifting performance that you could normally expect from XX. The Q166 is necessary to clear the stays on the dw-link Turner bikes.
