INTENSE UZZI VP

2005 marked a major re-entry into the freeride market for Intense with the resurrection of a legendary name: The Uzzi. Completely unlike the Uzzi models of years gone by, though, the versatile Intense Uzzi VpX took on a tough, burly physique designed to tackle the hairiest of terrain. 2009 presents us with yet another incarnation -- the Intense Uzzi VP. We think it's the best yet -- versatile enough to be built as a tough all-mountain rig, or as a full-on freeride machine.

The Uzzi VP is supremely adjustable. It's the first Intense to feature their G3 dropout -- it features three positions to allow the rider to customize wheelbase, bottom bracket height and head angle to suit most any terrain. And the Uzzi's travel can be adjusted to achieve either 7 or 7.5" of plush VPP travel by simply switching to the alternate position of a two-position upper link.

Following in the footsteps of the revolutionary Tracer VP, the Uzzi VP receives a healthy dose of the 2nd generation VPP technology which minimizes chain growth by some 15-20% and makes routine maintenance a two-minute labor of love. This allows the suspension to stay more active, resulting in a plush ride with loads of traction. Angular contact bearings help keep the link stable and laterally stiff, enhancing the already legendary Intense tracking characteristic. The design drastically reduces the amount of maintenance required, and makes doing it a whole lot easier. Zerk fittings can be found at the pivots which allow for lubrication without disassembly. Bearings last longer, and the suspension action stays smooth and quiet.

Intense recognizes that the Uzzi VP is gonna get pounded, which is why the Uzzi VP is built with a custom-drawn Easton/Intense EA6X aluminum tubeset explicitly designed to withstand the abuse. It is CNC-machined, welded, assembled and heat-treated right in Intense's Temecula, California facility. Its 1.5" headtube and angular contact bearings throughout the suspension ensure a stiff, smooth, and durable bike. It sports ISCG-05 chainguide mounts and is fully compatible with Truvativ Hammerschmidt. Throw at it what you will, the Uzzi is built to conquer.

The Intense Uzzi is disc-specific and comes equipped with a Fox DHX 4.0 Coil. Or for an upcharge of $70, you can upgrade to the Fox DHX Air, and for $250, you have the option to upgrade to a Cane Creek Double Barrel with a steel coil. The Uzzi comes with your choice of 135mm or 150mm rear spacing to accommodate even the burliest of wheelsets -- please specify your preference in the comments section at checkout. You can use either standard or 12mm axles and tires up to 2.5” wide.

The Intense Uzzi VP is available in Intense Red, Stealth Black, Copper, Works (raw aluminum) or Works Blue in Small, Medium and Large sizes. It uses a 31.6mm seatpost, and a 34.9mm, top swing front derailleur. A grease gun kit is included with your frame purchase to make for easy routine maintenance. The frame weight, with Fox DHX 4.0 Coil shock, is, according to Intense, 8.25 lbs (3.745kg). The frame has a two year warranty against manufacturing defects.
