BMC SPEEDFOX SF01
If the Fourstroke is the factory race rocket, then the BMC Speedfox SF01 is their production Corvette. In bike terms, the Speedfox has the proper lineage and uses the same Advanced Pivot System (APS) suspension technology as the Fourstroke, but a few changes have been made to increase its appeal to the average rider who's looking forward to their next long, hard ride. The geometry on the Speedfox is a touch slacker, with a 68 degree head angle in contrast to the 69.5 degree head tube of the Fourstroke. This relaxed angle creates a more stable steering feel, perfect for longer endurance events like marathon or adventure racing.
The Speedfox SF01 has 120mm of rear suspension travel. The nearly one inch difference between it and the Fourstroke FS01 feels like much more than that on the trail, partly due to BMC's insistence on a nearly linear wheel rate. The Speedfox rear suspension is active throughout the travel range, and ramps up gently to soften any unexpected hits, yet allows full use of the travel. The short, forged aluminum links and sealed cartridge pivot bearings of BMC’s APS design eliminate unwanted lateral flex. Furthermore, the placement of the upper and lower linkages creates a fine balance between bump sensitivity, stability (resistance to bobbing or effect from rider weight shift), and their desired leverage ratios. And by positioning the floating pivot relative to the chainrings, the APS suspension maintains the efficient pedaling characteristic that high-performance riders demand from a trail bike. The Fox Float RP2 shock is air sprung and has an external adjustment for rebound damping and a two-position (on or off) ProPedal lever for adding low speed compression damping if needed on long climbs or non-technical terrain. The Integrated Skeleton Concept styling at the forked top/seat tube junction is a BMC trademark. It helps distribute the stress along with the semi-sharp edges of the main tubes along a broader area of the frame to add durability. Triple-butted, hydroformed aluminum tubing on both the front and rear triangles keeps the weight of the Speedfox 01 at a bare minimum -- where tubes can be thinner, they are, and added thickness at the weld zones creates the strongest possible joints. Rest assured, the Swiss engineers at BMC have used the latest FEA stress modeling software on every inch of this bike to be absolutely sure it's ready for anything you are.
The BMC Speedfox SF01 is available in XS, Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large and comes in Anodized Black. It requires a 31.6mm seatpost and a 35mm clamp-on traditional top-pull front derailleur. The rear brake mount is a 74mm post-style and will accept the caliper as a direct mount for a 160mm rotor. It includes a 1-1/8" FSA ZS-3 semi-integrated headset and is recommended for use with forks ranging in travel from 110-140mm.
BMC offers a 5 year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on the aluminum Speedfox frame.
