VENTANA EL REY
The King. Despite our general proximity to Graceland, we're not talking about Elvis here. All kidding aside, Ventana has taken care of business applying the secrets of their cult favorite El Saltamontes to a 29er platform to produce Ventana El Rey -- a fast-rolling, straight tracking, stable trail bike. Featuring excellent 2.4 tire clearance (though we've fit the 2.55 WTB Weirwolf LT tires without issue) and 4" of travel, El Rey is sure to be a hit worthy of the Jungle Room.
El Rey utilizes a Fox Float RP23 Shock (View our set-up video) and Ventana’s tried-and-true, low compression suspension design to yield 4” of plush, bob-free rear travel in a non-Horst linkage, non-VPP suspension platform. The suspension design is much like Ventana’s heralded El Saltamontes, yielding an amazingly stiff, responsive frame. With 4” , a well-built chassis, and 29” wheels, El Rey cruises over nearly any obstacle with ease and is a terrific all around trail bike.
El Rey is built with Ventana’s proprietary butted and ovalized 6061-T6 aluminum tubing. It has an internally butted bottom bracket shell, and a one piece CNC-machined bottom bracket shell and main pivot, plus an internally butted headtube with wrap-around gusseting to enhance stiffness and durability. A CNC machined brace above the bottom bracket helps strengthen El Rey, and disperse stress to the pivot points. A heavy-duty swingarm and quad bearings ensure a premium is placed on torsional stability.
El Rey has loads of toughness, but it's a beauty to behold, too, thanks to Ventana's legendary “Electric Sex” TIG welds and their luscious powder coat finishes. Ventana finishes the frame with a handcrafted stainless steel headbadge proudly displaying the Ventana “V” with the year of their inception, 1988.
Ventana El Rey is a disc-specific frameset and uses double-sealed, oversized cartridge bearings at the pivot points. It has 10mm bearing axles at minor pivots, 15mm bearing axles at the main and tower pivot points. It requires the use of a 1-3/8" (34.9mm) traditional top pull front derailleur, International Standard disc brake mount and a 27.2mm seatpost. It has vertically slotted dropouts with a CNC-machined replaceable derailleur hanger. Stock colors are Electric Superdust and Cosmic Orange, or for $150 and a little patience, you can have it finished in any of Ventana’s luscious powdercoats – Electric Red Metallic, Blue Metallic, Grinch Green, Gloss Black, Gloss White, Army Green, and Cosmic Grey.
