SANTA CRUZ BULLIT COMPLETE BIKE
While we certainly embrace freedom of choice and encourage people to follow their muse when assembling a bike, there are most certainly efficiencies gained when buying a pre-packaged complete bike. Santa Cruz has been incredibly helpful to that end, spec'ing some really smart component packages that aren’t about saving a buck or meeting a tariff regulation, but about creating a bike that you want to ride right out of the box with no modification.
The Santa Cruz Bullit provides you with a flexible platform. You can use it as anything from an all mountain cruiser to a DH bomber. But it might be best realized as a freeride bike. The builds we have here reflect the abuse the 20mm swingarm pivot was born to take.
The X9 AM build leans toward an all-mountain intent for the Bullit. It features SRAM X-9 trigger shifters and rear derailleur, Shimano SLX triple crank, and a Shimano XT front derailleur. Braking is provided by Avid Elixir CR disc brakes using a 185mm front rotor and 160mm rear. An Easton EA70 riser bar and stem complete the cockpit. Damping is provided by the ultra-adjustable Fox DHX Air shock in the rear, and a Rock Shox Lyrik Solo Air up front. It all rolls sweet on DT 5.1 hoops built around a DT 340s rear hub and Chub 20mm front.
Or if performance-on-a-budget is the name of the game, you might opt for the R FR complete bike -- built with a smart selection of components that don’t reflect what any component manufacturer wants, but what the mad tinkers at Santa Cruz think is right for riding. They build it the way they like to ride it. Not often do you see a Shimano Saint front derailleur mixed with SRAM X-7 triggers and SRAM X-9 medium cage rear derailleur. It has a single-pivot rear suspension that boasts 179mm of travel, anchored by an 8.5 x 2.5 Fox DHX 3.0 Coil shock. The frame was designed around a Rock Shox 180mm travel fork, and this build features the Rock Shox 180mm Totem Coil.
The wheels are another place where we see a happy union of components that reflect the way gravity riders think. They've mated strong Mavic EX 325 rims to durable and smooth DT 340 hubs via DT spokes and brass nipples for strength, stability and durability. Also reflecting the intent of the build are the 203mm front and 185mm rear rotors that are grabbed by Avid Elixir R calipers for maximum stopping power and great heat dissipation. Big Kenda 2.5" Nevegals are sticky and offer plenty of surface area and knob for a sure-footed grip.
