The Michelin Pro3 was a pretty popular tire, but it seemed most only ran them on race day. They gripped like you wouldn’t believe, but they were a bit prone to flats under normal use. Well, we’re happy to report that Michelin fixed the bad, and improved the already good in the Pro4 Service Course. They’ve altered the rubber compound a bit and added a full-tread nylon breaker to help resist against road debris, sharp rocks, and anything else you might encounter on a normal training ride.

In addition to the different rubber and anti-flat reinforcement, the Pro4 has a new shape designed to offer even more traction when the bike’s leaned over in a turn. This shape, combined with the new rubber compound, adds up to a 16% increase in turning traction over the Pro3 Race —the grippiest of the Michelin tires.

Not Worth the

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Normally I only ride on GP4000s but I was attracted by CC's deep discounts on the Pro4s. I figured I would give these a try since the price was so good. Within 400 miles the Pro4s were severely cut. Perhaps best as a race day clincher, the Pro4s were a failed experiment for me. Like the way they ride but disappointed by the durability....I'm going back to my GP4000s.

Great Race Tires

These tires are great. I rode through two sets before having moved on to another brand, for experimentation sake. The tires are soft and they roll well. They definitely do not wear well, as these are race tires. So be warned as a potential buyer! It gets nicked up pretty easily by anything other than gloss smooth asphalt. For the price that they're constantly at (i.e. they're nearly always on sale) it is unbeatable to get your hands on some race-slicks. The only improvement I can imagine would be to have Michelin offer up a 24 or 25 width tire as the pressures necessary on a 23 tire seems to make it a stiffer ride than I personally prefer.

Small cracks in the tires...

These tires were inexpensive, gripped great, handled great, rolling resistance was great but... after only a few months of use I have small "cracks" on the edges of the tread. And I only had about 300-400 miles on them. It's a little disconcerting but it didn't seem to effect the grip and handling of the tire. But as I used it more, more cracks appeared. I even searched the net and found it seems to be a common problem but it seems Michelin isn't concerned. I'd love to get another set but I worry about the many "cracks" on these relatively new tires. So buyer beware.

One of the Best

Pro 4 tyres are some of the best gripping rubber you can buy. I'll never forget ripping down a mountain descent in a rainstorm, completely confident that my Pro 4's would hold true through the tight switchbacks. One of my favorite tyres for wet weather riding and all around tackiness deep into a corner. Durability is on par with the likes of Continental, and I rarely get flats when I'm rocking them.

Best tire I've ever used

I've tried many road tired in the last 20+ years, but the Michelin Pro4's are by far the best. They are on my two bikes. I'm on my 4th pair and no complaints, only 1 flat, from a huge goat head.

Michelin Pro 4's

I'll never switch to another tire as long as these are available !
For my weight (157 lbs.) these tires give the best stick and increase my confidence to take those corners!

Grip for days

Mad sticky rubber and a reasonable weight makes these awesome tires for ripping long mountain descents or for fast crit races. Ride quality I felt is on par with other higher-quality clinchers like Conti GP 4000's. Tire wear expectedly suffers when you have a tire with this much grip. I usually get between 500 and 600 miles and about 50,000ft of climbing before the rear tire is toast. Good price and if you're aware that these will wear quickly they are a good tire for their purpose.

The 700 x 25 is true to size.

Although I've had very good experience with the 23s, I put off buying the 25s for months because of a well-circulated article that claimed they were closer to 28s. The tire I got, inflated to 90 lbs., measures 25.2. Nice tire.

Fat bike for Roadies?

This is the second time I bought these pairs of tires and they really last a good amount of time. I ride a bit more dirt roads than the normal roadie, and these tires can stand up against the beating. The second pair I got were 25mm, and the only bad thing about these is that with them fully inflated, you cannot get them through the brake to take off the wheel for transport.

Excellent Tire!

700x25 was on my Ridley build. These are fantastic tires, very good grip, an apparent low rolling resistance, and a smooth ride. They played an integral part on a fantastic ascent on Spirit Lake Highway and were even more important coming down!
A wonderful combination of everything you look for in a tire, sticky, supple, smooth, good wear resistance.

Good tire

I like the Michelin Pros a lot. They are soft enough to handle well.. sticky around turns while more durable than I was expecting. I weigh 160 and they have been lasting at least 1000-1500 miles.

solid tire, great value on sale

I just passed 1K miles on these tires and they are great. absolutely no issues with quality (not showing any signs of wear), they corner great, they roll great, and sometimes you can find them for as much as 50% off the list price which makes them a real bargain.

Solid Tire

I've used this tire as an upgrade from Schwalbe Luganos, and these provide much better feel and grip, and are lighter to boot. After 100+ miles on these tires in wet weather, I'd definitely recommend as a good off-season tire, and probably a pretty good summer tire too. Solid wet grip and rolling resistance seems good as well.

A lot of folks compare these to the Continental GP 4000S tires. I have a pair of those on another bike, and honestly can't say that I see a huge difference in performance thus far. I haven't ridden either enough to see a difference in wear longevity, though some folks think the Michelins wear faster. Objectively, there are a few differences, at least comparing the 25mm versions of both - the Contis are definitely wider than the Pro4 tires, and also a little heavier. The Contis also seem to attract more grit, maybe due to stickier compound.

Bottom line - you can't go wrong with either. If you find either for under $50, I'd grab a set and enjoy.

A good Upgrade

I've spent lots of miles on several pairs of Pro 3's & these are pretty much an upgrade in every way. Ride Quality is great, rolls well, seems a bit more impervious to flatting & improved wet riding. Love putting miles on these bad boys.

Great riding, great wearing

This will be my second set of the 700x25. I installed the first set in early summer and have ~3,500 miles on them riding nearly every day of the week with Saturday and Sunday each being at least 50-mile days. A few small cuts (the roads are pretty good here in Chicago 'burbs) and no flats. Definitely better wet weather traction than the Conti's. Have tried both 23 and 25-mm and will stick with the 25's. The lower pressure helps absorb some of the rough pavement and when paired with the winter alloy wheels with higher spoke count definitely more comfortable. Ride equally well with carbon clinchers in summer. Current set not fully worn out but could not pass up this sale.

Best rolling tire on the market

I've been riding Michelin Pro tires for several years and the Pro 4 is a great evolution of the pro line.
This tire has an incredible fast and yet grips well on cornering. I also get a lot of miles our of these tires and find them a real good value... especially at half off right here on cc

4<4000

The PRO4 is a great tire, without a doubt. However, for the same $ you could get the robust Conti 4000S. If you want a fast tire, you have found it. If you want your fast tire to last, get the Conti's.

Granted, the colors are pretty cool... and a lot of Pros ride the 4... and the mascot is adorable with his puffy tire body. But the Conti's last so much longer. I am not going to claim that I can tell the difference in performance between the two, lab tech's can barely tell the difference. What I can tell you is the Conti's gave me fewer flats over a longer lifespan.

Overall, I give these 4 stars... If the 4000S didn't exist, they would get 5.

Great Tires

When a post ride tire inspection revealed that my ancient rides were beginning to disintegrate, it was time for an upgrade.

This year's revision of the PRO3 is not a disappointment. The tire feels extremely durable and has a great "road feel." I opted for the larger size, 700x25 since I tend to ride for enjoyment and like the additional comfort of the larger tire.

I haven't had them long enough to speak to their long-term durability, but I have no reason to doubt it at this point. I will report back if that changes.
