Description

For the big-wheeled crowd.

A combination of Maxxis' rubber expertise and the 29in Ardent Tubeless Ready EXO's balloon-ish volume brings the large-wheeled crowd a trail-smoothing ride with confidence-inspiring traction. Accelerating and braking grip is found in a center tread that features low-profile, ramped knobs.

While these are ideal for acceleration by preventing energy loss, they also assist with braking traction. Measuring 2.25 inches wide, at the sides of the Ardent lay large block-style knobs creating numerous edges for confident, high-speed cornering. This Ardent uses a 60 TPI casing with EXO protection. This consists of added pinch flat and abrasion protection at the sidewall for an enhanced resistance to cuts.

It is also a TR, Tubeless Ready casing featuring for tubeless rim compatibility requiring the use of sealant, or an inner tube. The Maxxis Ardent EXO Tubeless Ready 29 x 2.25in Tire is equally adept mounted in front or the rear.

Digging the Ardents

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Riding the jungle in Panama on my new Ardents (front and back). A huge gain in cornering confidence over the original Crossmarks (ridden one year - SC Superlight). Uphill traction is great on the loose, rooty, usually wet trail that I ride 3 to 4 times a week. I got the EXO Tubless Ready 2.25s. They seem to roll just fine too. I liked the Crossmarks, but was never really confident pushing the bike over in the corners. Now it's a whole new ballgame! Wish I'd switched sooner.

Fit on Stan's ZTR Arch EX 29er rim

How well does this tire fit on the Stan's ZTR Arch EX 29er rim? The High Roller II's are extremely tight.

Responded on

I have the 2.25s on my Stans ZTR Crests. Fit fine.

Great tire for dry conditions

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I live in Bend, Oregon and many of our trails are loose over hard pan. This tire works great in these conditions and rolls well also. The front in the 2.4 never pushes and gives one confidence!

Ardent EXO Best All Around Front Tire

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I truly think the Ardent EXO does it all. I weigh 155 and run the 2.4 at 17-18psi up front, the 2.25 at 18-19psi. In terms of cornering the Ardent 2.4 is right up there with the best cornering tires I have ridden (Minion/High Roller 2/Trail King all weigh much more). Though the Ardent may not be the lightest on the market the EXO sidewall is worth its weight in gold providing better stability, better traction due to lower psi allowance, better pinch flat resistance, and I have yet to burp one which I cannot say for any other tire brand I have run including Schwalbe (with snakeskin), WTB, Specialized, etc. It's a good roller though it's no Ikon/Racing Ralph.
