Grab the road.

Though it seems obvious now, the idea of use-specific tires for front and rear wheels has only recently come into vogue among large manufacturers. Mavic, with its penchant for tech and innovation, was an early adapter and continues to lead the charge with the Yksion Pro GripLink Clincher Tire, which is designed specifically to meet the demands placed on a front tire. Its rear mate is the Yksion Pro PowerLink Clincher.

Since the load placed on a front tire is lower than that placed on the rear, Mavic is able to give the GripLink tackier shoulders without worrying about the corresponding loss of durability that softer, better-gripping compounds entail. The GripLink also has tread pattern designed to channel water and maintain solid contact with the road, even in wet conditions. This results in a tire that leads confidently into corners whether it's sunny and dry or grey and a bit on the damp side.

Given our description of the shoulder, we're compelled to stress that this isn't a one-and-done tire that will fall apart the minute you even see a pothole. The GripLink's 127 TPI casing and harder center strip boost the tire's longevity and rolling efficiency. There's also a Kevlar anti-puncture strip under the tread, which really speaks for itself.

The Mavic Yksion Pro GripLink Clincher Tire is designed for use on front wheels and is available in two sizes, 700c x 23mm and 700c x 25mm.

  • Front-specific clincher tire
  • GripLink: softer shoulder compound, harder center strip
  • Kevlar anti-puncture breaker under tread
  • 127 TPI casing

This is a very good tire choice

I always wonder when I see dramatically different reviews on a product how they might have been used under different conditions or is the product that inconsistent. My experience with Mavic is that they are very consistent in their products. I have owned several sets of their wheels and found them bulletproof. I have owned two sets of these tires and had really good results. The first set yielded about 3500 miles and the set I just took off had 3900 miles on them. Never had a flat on either set. They are as lightweight as any you will find in this price range, ride is very good, handling is superb, and they last. I'll be the first to admit that the roads I bike are better than average and I'll also throw in that I check pressures before EVERY ride-105 psi in front and 110 psi in rear. I use Continental race tubes and run them on Mavic Ksyrium Elite S wheelset on my Cervelo R3.

Terrible tires

Had these tires on my road bike and in under 400 miles of fair weather ridding on smooth pavement, the tread separated from the bead on both sides on both tires. I wouldn't trust these tires again and do not recommend them as they appear to be of very low quality.

Grippy for road slicks

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After 2500 on my old Mavic Aksium tires (and since they don't sell them anymore) I went with their newer line of Yksion Pro GripLink and PowerLink tires. The GripLink goes on the front and I'm happy with them. Very grippy and does the job, the side walls a little soft I think but liking the tires so far. I have them on a pair of Aksium wheels. I've put a few hundred miles on them so far and going good. No punctures or flats yet riding on rough road, gravel, dirt, rain, and mud with Continental road race tubes (knock on wood).
