Description

Save the performance rubber for race day.

Regardless of if you have both a race-day and training wheelset, you shouldn't be eating up your race rubber with base miles. That's why the Mavic Yksion Comp Clincher Tire is the ideal tire for your everyday wheelset. Designed for heavy duty use, the Yksion Comp features a high density casing that will withstand the rigors of your training schedule without sacrificing any ride quality.

This casing adds durability without taking away from the 120 TPI casing's suppleness. After all, ride quality is still paramount when you're stacking up training miles. At 210 grams, the Yksion Comp is slightly heftier than other tires in the Mavic line, like the Pro Griplink, but the enhanced durability easily offsets that. Besides, you're only looking at a 10 gram differential between the Pro series when you run the Comp as a set.

Mavic's all-condition rubber compound and tread expertly blend grip, efficiency, and durability. And the bead uses foldable aramid fibers that are both lightweight and durable.

The Mavic Yksion Comp Clincher Tire is available as a 700c tire and in either a 23 or 25cm width.

Same As Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

There is very little difference between the Yksion Comp and the Vittoria Rubino Pro slick tire other than a slight difference in the dual rubber compounding. The two rubbers separate slightly, unlike the Rubino's, after some use and makes even bike shop people think the tires are deteriorating but this is not a problem other than very small stones can get trapped in the
very narrow grooves that develop. These are relatively fast, very comfortable tires with decent flat protection, excellent grip, and good durability. These have been discontinued and replaced with the F/R specific Griplink/Power Link that are even better but you get many more miles from tires you can rotate and don't let bike shop people tell you rotating is bad as it is a ruse.
The flat spot that develops on the rear tire has minimal effect when put on the front, but don't let it get too bad. If you rotate after 1000 miles it is simple, you add another 900 miles of life to your tires as the front tire barely wears at all.

Good comment and suggestions ref: rotating tires.
