Mavic Stratos Shorts $99.95
The ride of your life.
Mavic's approach to apparel design mimics the attention to detail and quality of the hard goods that put this French cycling manufacturer on the map. This is blatantly apparent with the Stratos Shorts. Top-tier materials, chamois compatibility, and a fit that blends all-mountain looseness with an athletic cut allows you to stay comfortable and focus on the trail.
The Stratos shorts are made from a combination of Mavic's Trail Tech and Trail Tech ST fabrics for the right blend of abrasion resistance and stretch. In fact, the built in stretch compliments the Stratos' semi-baggy cut in order to allow a total freedom of movement. So, by creating a semi-loose fit with the same stretch of an all-mountain baggy, Mavic has ensured that you'll avoid snagging a saddle or having the fabric bunch on you while pedaling.
Also preventing short migration are wide hook-and-loop closures located at each hip. Additionally, this adjustment system allows you to fine tune the fit at the waist. For storage, there are bonded zippers over the pockets on each thigh, and the pockets are just big enough for essentials like keys, phone, and a few gels. And in terms of ventilation, Laser cut Micro Vents at the hips aid in both moisture management and in keeping the ride from getting too hot and sweaty.
And while these are shell shorts, they can be worn solo, or teamed up with Mavic's Stratos liner for added comfort and support in the form a chamois.
The Mavic Stratos Shorts are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors Autobahn/black and Black.

- How to Measure:
- For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
- Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
- Natural Waist:
- Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
- Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
- Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
- Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.

I never notice these shorts while I am riding. The are light, and therefore excellent in the summer, they fit me well (wearing a size large with 33/34 waist) and they have just the right amount of styling to make other people think I know what I'm doing out on the trail. I use the pockets but for lighter weight items. I've also found these to be acceptably durable.
I use a now extinct Swobo liner underneath. These shorts also fit POC's VPD hip shorts underneath them. No experience with kneepads, though.
All in all a solid short.
