Wet no more.

When dark skies reside above, and rain is simply a foregone conclusion, you need dedicated protection. After all, it's important to remember that there's a world of difference between "waterproof" and "water-resistant." In a real-world context, it's really the difference between being wet and being dry. So, what to do? Reach for the waterproof option with the Mavic Stratos H2O Jacket.

As its name suggests, the Stratos H2O jacket is built for the wet. To do so, Mavic constructed the Stratos from its Cocona Xcelerator material. This fabric is not only waterproof to 20,000mm water column, but it's also one of the most breathable materials in Mavic's outerwear lineup. Ultimately, this means that you'll remain dry in torrential downpours, but this level of protection won't come at the added expense of creating a rainforest microclimate between the jacket and your skin.

To further ensure your comfort under darkened skies, Mavic included a detachable hood with a reinforced brim to keep the rain off of your dome. You'll also find that the Stratos H2O features bonded seams throughout and ergonomically designed cuffs that easily integrate with gloves. Other accoutrement include an asymmetric front zipper for comfort and easy entry/exit, a scuff guard to increase durability over trails, and Mavic's own ClimaVent technology with underarm zips to further keep you cool and comfortable.

The Mavic Stratos H2O Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Autobahn, Black, and Black/White.

  • Waterproof breathable Cocona Xcelerator fabric
  • Detachable hood
  • Bonded seams
  • Ergonomically designed cuffs

Great for mountain biking

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I’ve used this jacket a few times and can attest that it is the real deal. What’s best about it though is that it’s bike specific. The cut allows you to be leaned forward in the ‘attack position’ comfortably. The sleeves aren’t too long or short, at least for my build.

The waterproof aspect is why I bought it and I can attest that it does indeed work. I’m a ‘hot’ rider and no gear has ever kept up with me with regard to wicking so I didn’t expect too much from this jacket. But, the vents make up for that in a tolerable way. On one ride I wore it only because it was cold out but kept it on when normally I remove a jacket and tough it out. I got the the top, turned it inside out to dry and kept on trucking.

Possibly the best feature though it the double zip that allows you to unzip the jacket while a mesh vent keeps it zipped for ventilation. Genius.

My one quibble is the ‘velcro’. They come open really easily not inspiring confidence. Although they haven’t come open on the trail so maybe it’s not a real issue?

Killer jacket.

I'm 5'11, 160 pounds. Would I be better off with a small or a medium?

Responded on

I'm 6'1 and 160. I got the medium and it fits pretty slim. I'm sure the medium would be OK for you.

How is the sizing on this jacket? I'm curious if I should get a L or XL. I'm about 6'3", 200 lbs, fairly athletic, long build. Long arms. Thanks for any advice!

Best AnswerResponded on

I am your height but with an additional 20 lbs (!). I have the Mavic HC H2O jacket in XL, and it is definitely too big around the chest and waist. I would go with the L, as I found the arms to be very long (i.e. almost too long in XL). Hope that helps.

Thanks! I ended up getting the large and it fits like a "glove" :) The length of the arms is perfect.

...and the kitchen sink!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

You know how some equipment has all those little touches that sound good in theory, but don't really work as they should?

This is not one of those.

The pit zips and XL vent team up to provide great through-flow ventilation. The pack-back fits well over small to medium hydro packs, allowing better mobility and ventilation.

OK, the watch window does fog up a little, especially if the cuffs are closed, and the hood won't actually fit over a bike helmet (though it does zip off), but I am impressed. The off centre front zip sits a little strangely at first. Much better once the fabric softens up.

The sleeves are a great length. Not too long, but certainly provide full coverage, even when moving about off-road. The fabric breathes and sheds water with the best I have tried.

I can't comment on the long term durability just yet. Hey, I was disappointed with my ShowersPass jacket that this replaced, until I realised it has had 7 hard years of commuting, mountain biking and touring (oh, and the odd fast hike)!

One star off for the small issues, which make it not quite perfect, but pretty damn close!

Does this jacket have the "pakback" feature...

Does this jacket have the "pakback" feature which allows you to wear your jacket over your pack?

Hey Spencer,

This jacket does have that pack feature. If you zoom in closely on the detailed picks you can kinda see the zipper toggles to let out the back panel.
