Change can be scary. If parting with a sweat-stained jersey or cracked helmet creates months of inner turmoil for you, invest in a few sets of the Mavic Ksyrium Clincher Wheelset to save yourself from the next few years of burgeoning trends and passing fads. As the defining alloy training wheel line for the French brand, Ksyrium is beloved and respected throughout the cycling world, and this year, Mavic left the wheelset alone, in all of its traditional but still-relevant glory.

Mavic trusts lightweight, durable S6000 aluminum to shape the Ksyrium rims, adding a precise CNC-machined braking surface and reinforcing the rim with a technique called Hammer Hardening along stress-prone areas. The Ksyrium has long been known for being a workhorse training wheelset for cyclists dutifully logging their training miles through a variety of road and weather conditions, and this construction is part of the reason why. Mavic's hardworking QRM hubs deserve their own credit as well, with tight internal clearances making sure your wheels don't feel like they're going to give out on you when you slam down on the pedals to crest a climb, and they're laced to the rims with steel spokes in Mavic's Isopulse pattern, equipping them to manage heavy loads and repeated stress.

The Ksyriums will show up to your doorstep accompanied by 25mm Yksion tires, BR101 quick-release skewers, and rim tape as thoughtful extras.

Bomb Proof

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Ksyrium has always been an all-rounder wheelset, and these continue in that vein, with an excellent balance of strength and speed. They’re not the lightest wheels in that class any more, but maintain their competitive edge, feeling taut and lively. A few prods on the pedals incites a rapid reaction from and an instant increase in speed, though the braking tracks did have a slightly sharp edge.

In short Mavic has taken all that was good about the original Ksyriums and updated them to and produce a great value, versatile pair of wheels.

Would these wheels be a good choice for a heavier rider (210 lbs.)?

Sin, I know it's a late response, but 210 is fine for these wheels. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
