Anything but standard.

The new 2015 Mavic Ksyrium SLR Wheel System walks the line between the standard alloy-spoked Ksyrium wheel family and the carbon-spoked R-Sys wheels by employing a blend of carbon and alloy spokes. Calling the Ksyrium wheels "standard," of course, is a bit misleading, because while they indeed have become a standard in the world of road bike wheels, they are anything but standard in their superb performance and fantastic appearance.

The big news with the 2015 Ksyrium SLR wheels is the introduction of an entirely new rim that's wider, lighter, stiffer, and more aerodynamic than before. Whereas the previous Ksyrium SLR wheels utilized the ISM 3D rim (ISM standing for Inter-Spoke Milling), the new SLR systems introduce the ISM 4D rim, the most advanced alloy rim the company has ever produced. A new extrusion and new milling pattern has shaved weight, while also producing a rim that is wider, both internally and externally, by one millimeter (up to 16mm and 20mm, respectively) and deeper (the front rim is now 24mm deep, growing by 2mm, and the rear is 26mm, growing by one, compared to the ISM 3D rim). The rims also feature an enhanced Exalith 2 brake track, which shortens both dry- and wet-condition stopping distances by almost 20%, compared to standard alloy braking surfaces, while also increasing service life of both the brake track and the included Exalith-specific brake pads.

While the rim is new, the Ksyrium rims roll smoothly on familiar hubs equipped with QRM+ bearings. They're double-sealed for longevity, and each hub allows for micro-fine, preload adjustments without requiring you to remove your wheel from the bike. Keeping with the lightweight design, a Force Transfer System Light (or FTS-L) is used in the freehub body. This reinforces the contact area between the aluminum hub body and the pawls with two stainless steel inserts for a better engagement.

Up front, Mavic's proven Zicral alloy spokes are used, while in back, the rim is connected to the hub via a blend of Zicral spokes on the drive side and ultra-stiff, lightweight carbon fiber Tracomp spokes on the non-drive side. The front wheel uses 18 spokes in a radial lacing pattern, and the rear has 20 spokes with a two-cross drive-side and radial non-drive side lacing pattern. Tracomp spokes provide an incredible amount of rigidity, because they flex less under load, and when the spoke experiences less compression, it's less prone to performance-dulling deflection.

Another area of improvement for the new Ksyrium SLR system is an entirely new pair of tires. Engineered in-house by Mavic and now produced by the world-renowned rubber masters at Hutchinson, the GripLink dedicated front tire and PowerLink dedicated rear tire feature new casings and new compounds, making for a completely new and enhanced experience.

The Mavic Ksyrium SLR Clincher Wheel System comes in Black with Black tires. They weigh approximately 1905g with the included tires and are available with either a Campagnolo or Shimano/SRAM compatible freehub body. Included with the wheels are BR601 quick releases, a computer magnet, a bearing adjustment tool, one spoke wrench, a spoke holder for aerodynamic spokes, the Tracomp ring tool, and a user guide.
