A familiar favorite.

Mavic's Ksyrium wheel series has been speaking for itself for years, consistently displaying unshakeable reliability across the range of terrain you encounter throughout seasons of training on the roads. The Mavic Ksyrium Pro SL Clincher Wheelset represents the Ksyrium family brilliantly. It's lighter than its Ksyrium Pro sibling and just as durable, making it an excellent choice if you're looking for a dependable new set of alloy training hoops that will climb, descend, and push through the flats while adding as few grams as possible to your setup.

Previously known as the Kysrium SL, the Ksyrium Pro SL Wheelset was renamed by Mavic this year, and the brand with an affinity for sticking to tradition gave it a few updates while staying with the same overall design we've seen previously. We'd argue that the Ksyrium Pro SL's slightly redesigned rim profile is the most significant change. As riders, we won't notice much of a difference with each pedal stroke, but the new design now saves a claimed 4 watts over its predecessor, which adds up as the base miles accumulate. Despite improved aerodynamics, the wheelset hasn't lost any grams over previous versions, not that 1,395g without tires is something to complain about in a rim that's properly described as "bombproof."

The other significant change affecting wheels across Mavic's line is the adoption of a new spoke milling standard known as Inter Spoke Milling 4 Dimensions, ISM4D. It replaces ISM3D, and though we aren't privy to specifics of the proprietary technology, this year's version continues to improve upon Mavic's construction technique of machining each part of the rim, eliminating as much excess material as possible without compromising the rim's structural integrity. Mavic continues to use its Maxtal aluminum to construct the rims themselves, with the lightweight, durable material offering an improved strength-to-weight ratio over its more common counterpart, 6061 alloy. The front rim features a 24mm depth, with the rear slightly deepened to 26mm.

The Ksyrium SL Pro rims continue to roll smoothly on Mavic's carbon-bodied hubs with aluminum flanges, which house QRM+ bearings with tight tolerances and the ability to be micro-adjusted. The carbon body lowers weight and increases stiffness slightly, properties that speak for themselves. The Force Transfer System Light reinforces the freehub body with two stainless steel inserts between the aluminum hub body and the pawls, creating a more durable system overall. Mavic laces the hubs to the rims with its Zicral aluminum spokes, 18 on the front wheel and 20 on the rear, with radial lacing on the front wheel and a two-cross drive side and radial non-drive side arrangement used on the rear wheel.

Mavic continues its partnership with Hutchinson this year, including a version of its Griplink and Powerlink tires on the Ksyrium SL Pro rims. Mavic designs the tires in-house, then entrusts the rubber-masters at Hutchinson to manufacture them. Both tires feature a supple 127 TPI and a tread that will hang onto the roads, and they're reinforced by a Kevlar bead to keep road debris from interrupting your ride or race. With this wheelset, Mavic also includes BR601 quick-release skewers along with a multi-function adjustment wrench.
