Beat the clock with carbon.

Despite recent attempts by other manufacturers, the title of lightest production road shoes still hangs on the Mavic Huez Shoes. Starting with their Zxellium platform, Mavic went minimal to create the Huez. Even without a scale, you can see these shoes aim for lightness with the airiness of the mesh employed in the uppers. They tip the scales at 195g per shoe, or less than 390g per pair.

The Huez boasts the same last, Ergo Lite upper, Ergo Lite toe cap, Energy Straps, and Energy Lock carbon heel of the Zxellium, but it goes in a few separate directions to lose a bunch of weight. One is the thinner mesh. But more important is the thinner Energy Full Carbon SL outsole. It may look the same from afar, but the sole is 1.5mm thinner, saving weight while keeping stiffness constant. The thinner sole makes pedaling more efficient, and it has titanium cleat inserts and smaller toe and heel pads on the outside for even more weight savings.

The bigger difference in terms of feel between the Zxellium and the Huez is how the foot is held into place. While the carbon heel is still present, the Energy Lock frame has been sacrificed in the name of lightness. So too has the Ergo Lite ratchet, in favor of a third Velcro strap per foot. The result are shoes that might not be quite as rock solid on the upstroke, but are lighter all around.

Inside you'll find the Ergo Fit SL insole. Yes, lighter than the 3D version. It has three densities of padding, along with a nice heel cup and metatarsal pad. The insole is covered in an anti-bacterial material that resists stink. The tongue has been lightened and is known as the Clima Vent Tongue SL. It has less padding, just the minimum necessary, and more mesh. Actually, the padding in the heel, tongue, and insole are called Auto Fit because they'll mold to your foot without the need for heating and posting.

The Mavic Huez Shoes are available in White and Yellow and come in half and whole sizes from 8 to 12.5 mens. They come with 'recommended length' screws for the threaded inserts in the outsole; so thin is the sole, they've provided shorter screws. A mesh carrying bag is also included.

  • full carbon heel counter holds your heel down without unnecessary bulk
  • Bonded upper construction helps relieve pressure points while a memory foam liner conforms to the shape of your foot for better support
  • Agion anti-bacterial treatment prevents foot odor
  • comes with a mesh shoe bag, titanium insert cleats, and recommended length screws for the outsole

Here's what others have to say...

Great Shoes!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As others have stated, these shoes are a definite winner from mavic. Nice and light, well ventilated. I wouldn't use them in the winter unless you put some shoe covers over. The carbon sole is excellent for stiffness and power transfer to the pedal. The form is excellent, i've never experienced any pains from the sole in these shoes.

Mavic SSC Huez Shoes --- BLISS

Another winner from MAVIC SSC...!!! Stiff as an i-beam,,,incredibly ventilated and yes, STUPID LIGHT in weight...just incredulous...I believe the shoes are actually lighter than the Speedplay cleets attached to them...they hardly "feel" at all, by that I mean to say that the shoes are so well adapted to the contours of the foot as to make them "feel" like they are not even there...like your feet are attached directly to the pedals as if by magic. Very simple closures...fast, light, secure, dependable, easily adjusted.

Now the downside....probably NOT the best shoe for any kind of cool or cold weather. Minimal trade-off there...!!!

Very happy so far with shoe...

Love 'em

Got 'em in March and have taken them for a few rides. Incredibly light. Light enough to offset that additional slice of apple pie a la mode last night.

Very very well ventilated. Not for cold weather. Fit like a slipper but might not fit certain types of feet. I'll probably get a custom insert to dial in my arch a bit better. They come with a nice bag so they don't get scummed up by my muddy MTB shoes in the closet.
Note that this uses three velcro enclosures, not a ratchet or dial. I think that is a weight saving thing. If you want the ratchet the next model down comes with that.
I've been using Mavic shoes since they were labeled as Adidas shoes and I'm happy with the brand and quality. Their MTB shoes are more comfortable than their road shoes even, probably because of the added padding.

I wear a size 43 in a Northwave, anyone know what would be the comparable size for the Huez? Thanks

Another 5 Stars from Mavic

Like the lightest slippers you own. But with a solid carbon sole. Fit is right on. Narrow, but not too narrow (I wear a b in dress shoes, and these are still a bit wide). Fear them not. Mavic is one clever company. I like the 3 velcro connectors- the darn pins in my Specialized shoes rip my booties). 5 stars!

No. This is a three hole shoe. SPD is two hole.

Real featherweights

I just bought a pair of these--450 grams for a pair in size 45, 540 grams with cleats installed. More than 300 grams lighter than my Sidi Ergo 2s. Should be ideal for the South Florida heat and humidity. Sizing is a little odd--these make a nice snug fit on me in size 45 (no thick socks), compared to 46 in Sidis. Fit like slippers, and my heels are held firmly in place. Much more secure than the Garneau x-lite carbons, and much lighter too.

Super light

These shoes are super light and breathe extremely well. I would not recommend them for colder climates or you will be wearing shoe covers often. One of the best summer time shoes you can wear. Once you've ridden a shoe this light weight, you won't be able to switch.

Color stays true as well after a lot of ware!
