The right tool for the Exalith job.

Exalith, a treatment given to Mavic's upper-echelon of wheels, penetrates the rim's alloy in order to delay rim wear and to enhance braking power. It's also a key component in maintaining the rim's distinctive Anthracite Grey color and is a hell of a lot harder than your typical alloy brake track. Given its differences compared to standard alloy, it devours standard brake pads, so you need to use the Mavic Exalith II Brake Pads in order to enjoy these increased stopping benefits. We should also note that Exalith-specific pads are too hard to properly grab standard alloy braking surfaces, so they're to be used only with Exalith II brake tracks.

We're not sure how Mavic produces the signature Exalith II surface — being "signature" means it's also a jealously guarded secret — but we can confirm that it's similar to anodization. Anyone who's experience the jet engine whine of previous generations of Exalith will be familiar with the improved stopping power of Exalith II, but they'll also be pleasantly surprised by the decreased noise associated with the surface.

These Mavic brake pads are specifically designed to work with certain Mavic rims. The Standard pads work with the Exalith II brake tracks on Mavic's Cosmic Carbone SLR, Cosmic Carbone SLE, R-Sys SLR, and Ksyrium SLR rims. Alternatively, if you're about to swap out your wheels for Mavic's futuristic CXR Ultimate 60 Clinchers, Mavic specifically designed the CXR Exalith II Brake Pads with a thinner, longer profile to account for the CXR Ultimate 60 Clincher's wider rims.

We're compelled to stress the fact that the CXR pads sold here are only for use with the CXR Ultimate 60 Clincher, which is the only CXR Ultimate wheelset with an Exalith II braking surface. Every other CXR — including the 80 Tubular and the 60 Tubular models — have carbon brake tracks, which will by destroyed by Exalith brake pads, voiding any warranty and putting the cyclist at risk.

Please note that these pads are sold as a pair, and that they're available for both post-2000 Campagnolo and SRAM/Shimano calipers.
